Oatmeal cookies or apple crisp, which is 'healthier'?
I've got one stick of butter left. What should I make?
(Yes, a whole stick of butter is entirely unhealthy but hey, I'll be using oats for either one so doesn't that cancel it out?
)
Re: Oatmeal cookies or apple crisp, which is 'healthier'?
not sure but if you use applesauce instead of oil in the oatmeal cookies it would be healthier than if you used oil
I would think the crisp is healthier - just cut back a little on the sugar in the crisp topping and filling, add extra cinnamon for flavor.... and really there isn't much butter in it - i'm guessing much less than in the cookies?

Lisa, you're making me hungry!
I was planning on using this recipe for the cookies, but only a half batch since I don't want to have too many extra cookies around to tempt us. I was also planning on using half the amount of sugar since it seems that some of the reviewers thought it was a little on the sweet side.
If I were to make apple crisp, I could probably make enough topping for 3 batches with one stick of butter. I usually bake just one and keep the extra crisp topping in the fridge until I'm ready to make the next batch a few days later. Since we buy butter from Costco, we store all the extras in the freezer. Would it be okay to freeze the unused crisp topping too?
I guess my problem is that I want to eat both and can't decide which one to make.
hehe - I would totally make both if you are up to it!
both freeze well. for the crisp I would freeze it unbaked, with the topping too.

Apple crisp sounds delish.
Here's an oatmeal chocolate chip recipe that you may want to try, they are called lactation cookies...I made them all the time when I was nursing to keep my milk production up (well, at least that's what I told myself - dang, they are GOOD).
So...you'll be sharing with the rest of the board, yes?
