Mariemont US Bank robbed?

DH just texted me and said he heard this.

Did anyone else hear this?  It amazes me if this is true because the US Bank is basically on Mariemont square and a very busy area.  It's amazing that a place that's so public could get robbed.

And it's only blocks from our townhouse!  eek.

Re: Mariemont US Bank robbed?

  • That might explain the four sheriff vehicles that I saw driving around with purpose earlier today. But, I hadn't heard that.
  • It has been nuts lately over in the Mariemont/Madisonville area.

Yesterday around 2:00pm I was driving where Red Bank sort of meets Erie (by the Speedway Gas Station) and there is a wooded area on that corner and there were more than 5 Cincinnati patrol cars around the woods and people standing along the street.  I think there was a suspect on the run in the woods!

    Creepy!

  • I am not near Mariemont, but I work in Mt.Carmel (Eastgate) and the house across the street from my office was broken in to last night and they got a bunch of tools and generators etc from their garage and trailers (they work on old cars and race cars) Then when the lady came to ask me if I had seen anything she said she asked the Child Focus Day care if they had seen anything of had any cameras and they said they had over $8,000 worth of A/C units stolen from them 2 weeks ago. This is a pretty busy road and normally I feel pretty darn safe around here, but it's kind of creepy.

  • I still haven't been able to get past the Madiera Kroger being robbed at 10pm. It's just up the street from the police station for heavens sake.

I haven't been able to find anything online about the US bank being robbed though, we'll see.

  • I wonder if it has anything to do with the holiday season coming and it's getting cold out.  maybe people are desperate for money so they are robbing people.

  • That's possible, it seems like there have been more robberies since the economy crapped out on us.

    Here's a story about the robbery: http://www.wlwt.com/news/21530758/detail.html
  • We always have more break ins and smash and grabs the closer it gets to Christmas. I think they will be especially high this Holiday season with the economy the way it is. Up until this point though only our inner-city stores have had problems, now we are seeing it more rural too... ugh!

  • While I think the Mariemont area is really nice and quaint, right down the street is madisonville- high crime area.  I still think they were stupid to put that new Walmart in that area.  Even with the tons of cameras and fairfax station in the parking lot, you know it will be robbed!
  • Yes I know Madisonville is not the nicest area but I think that all of the nice neighborhoods inside the 275 loop are only blocks from not as nice areas. And there is crime in the suburbs--even in Mason. I guess its just a wake up call to all of us to take precautions--dont leave things in your car like work bags, don't leave your windows open, double lock your doors, etc. We can only do so much and just cross our fingers!
  • Yeah, this had me a little on edge last night, I live 2 buildings up from the bank.  I personally though don't think that the area the Wal-Mart is in is that bad, and at least it's not nasty and old like the one on Ridge was.  Like Timmy said pretty much all of the suburbs have not so great areas surrounding them, I really haven't heard or seen all that much crime and violence in the Madisonville area lately.  Granted I won't be up there walking the streets at night, but I'm not scared to drive through there.

  • I would agree with PP...I don't think Madisonville is all that bad.  If you keep to yourself you really aren't going to have problems.  I grew up in Madeira, but right on the edge of Madisonville and the quickest way to get to a lot of places was through there.  never any problems.  We used to go to places down there all the time to get beer in high school.  A Saab dealership is down there and it doesn't have many problems (aside from the riots in '00 or '01) and I think they would be a main target for vandalism and theft.
