Ghee (Indian clarified butter)- can I find it at Indian grocer?
I'm going to try making some Indian cuisine soon, and a lot of recipes call for "ghee", which is Indian clarified butter.
Is this something I can do at home? Can I buy it at an Indian grocer?
Re: Ghee (Indian clarified butter)- can I find it at Indian grocer?
According to friends of mine, you need to make it. Here is a link for an alton brown recipe -- http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/ghee-recipe/index.html (sorry I suck at making things clicky). Most of the recipes I browsed look like they are the same. There are even how to videos on you tube.
Good luck and let me know how it goes. We are getting ready to dabble more into Indian food so I am excited to hear how your adventures go!
You can definitely get it at an indian grocer, but I have also seen it in the ethnic section in grocery stores. It comes in a jar.

I got mine at Biggs. I shop at the skytop location. You could also call the Dean's Mediterranean Market, they have lots of hard to find stuff. If they don't have it they might be able to tell you where to get it.
