do you have a deep freezer?

How big is it?  Do you feel like you should have bought a bigger freezer? Where do you keep it?  Do you think an unheated garage would be ok?  Our basement is really a cellar and I don't think we could get a freezer down the stairs-nor do I like going down there.  Our fridge is a side by side model and the freezer is full (plus I hate the side by side design)

Re: do you have a deep freezer?

  • my parents always had one and i want to get one too. we always kept it in the basement though i don't see any problem putting it in the garage.

  • We have one, I am not sure of the size, but know it is one of the larger models.  We love it and get plenty of use out of it.  No complaints at all about it.  We keep ours in the garage, which does not have any heat or A/C.  The feature that I really like is that it has built in, adjustable dividers that help keep things a little more organized.  (ie- I have meat, veggie, fruit, etc sections).  There are also shelves/ bins that fit in the top and can slide to  side.  Perfect size for smaller boxes like boxed frozen veggies, waffles, etc.
  • I can't remember our size either but I want to say its like 7 cu ft.  We have ours in our garage and it works awesome.  During the power outage last year that is where we stored everything!  I highly recommend them!  We always buy in bulk when something like chicken or ground turkey is on sale!  Good luck :)

  • We have one but we don't use it so I unplugged it. I don't cook all that often so it's a waste for us, but growing up we got lots of use out of ours with a family. My parents had the traditional kind and my aunt (who cooks ALOT) always had the stand up kind and hers seemed way more useful that my parents chest freezer for organizational purposes. My aunts was the size of a regular fridge, I don't know the cubic feet.

  • My folks keep theirs in an unheated garage with no trouble. Ours came with the house and is in our basement pantry.
  • We have an upright freezer and we keep it in our garage. We haven't had a problem keeping it there, and our garage doesn't have heat or A/C. Our freezer is about the size of small refrigerator. It's the same height and width as our older 20 cu. ft. fridge, but I don't think it has as much space inside.

Chest freezers are more efficient than upright freezers, but I like the organization in an upright better. Plus I'm short so it was always difficult for me to get anything at the bottom of my parents chest freezer growing up (heck, even now I have problems!).

  • We had a small chest freezer (think less than the width of stairs), and now we have a larger stand up freezer.  I LOVE my stand up freezer.  Great for organization and I feel like I no longer go freezer diving.  We keep ours in the garage with no issues.  It's by the door to our house.

  • I love mine! i do not know the size of it, but I would say medium size. I think DH got it for about $175 at HH Gregg. it has definitely been worth it! I cook almost every night of the week and it is great when the meats are on sale at the grocery store. I also freeze bread, rolls, etc so if the weather is bad I don't have to go out. Also, I keep snacks in there for unexpected company comes over.

  • We have been thinking of getting one as well. My parents have a chest style freezer in their basement and love it. We would like to put it in our garage, which is heated and has ac, but it is not at strong as it is in the house. Our reg freezer is already full and we love to get stuff on sale when we can. Sounds like with the way everybody loves theirs we just might be getting one before too long!!!Smile
