Guess what I might get?!?!?! 5DMkII!!! B found this promotion at a casino where you can earn it buy earning so many points (playing video poker). So we're slamming it hard trying to earn it by the end of the month. It'll take a few weeks to get it once we order so I'm thinking around New Years. So stoked!
And did I tell you I got my first L lens? 24-70 2.8. Figure it'll be good for baby pics. Would be so awesome to shoot with the MkII over the 20D.
Re: ***Lisa in HI***
Wow, that's cool!! You'll definitely have to keep me updated on your video poker progress! I hope you get it sooner than New Years though!
How do you like the 24-70 so far? I refuse to use my 50 1.4 on John's camera because I know that I'll get spoiled and want my own 5DMkII. I'm not even going to tempt myself.
Have you been checking out the photography board lately? Yikes, did you see what happened the other day with pixy_stix and one of the other nesties on there?
Was there drama on the board? I only read some of the posts. Are there other photo boards you recommend? I'm not that impressed with the Bump one so far. Like that post asking for a photog rec in Chicago? Why can't people recommend photographers? If it's not themselves? I don't get it. They got all up in arms about it being a no-no. Whatever. How is it any different than asking for photog recs on TK?
I haven't used the 24-70 that much yet. Just practiced on the dog so far. Haha. But I'm planning to start getting out and shooting more. I just need to stop being lazy and do it. It's hard, though, because I can't think of very good locations here in Vegas to shoot. I need to go scouting. Do you guys have the 24-70? The camera comes with the 24-105 f/4, which I've read is good but I'm not liking the f/4 part! Hopefully it'll be somewhat useful. I'd really rather just have the body but it is an L lens so I guess it's probably good, right?
John's been using the 70-200 tons lately. In fact, he uses it so much that I don't think I've taken a shot with it since he got his camera in April! The 24-105 is a nice lens but for me, it seems kind of slow. However, once you get the 5DMkII, you'll be able to bump up your ISO like crazy so maybe it won't be such an issue?
The drama on the board happened 2 or 3 days ago? Pixy took someone's siggy pic of their daughter in a Halloween costume and created a post on another board asking if they thought the costume was appropriate for a child. It was a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader outfit with the crop top so lots of people were saying that it was a bit much for a child. The mom got upset and called Pixy out, saying that she shouldn't have done that. Lots of people were siding with pixy, saying that she didn't do anything wrong but in the end, she got placed on a 3-day ban.
The thread on the photography board had over 100 posts!
Sorry to eavesdrop, but I think I've seen photos taken at a sign graveyard in or near Vegas. I have no idea where it is, but it looks like an awesome place to shoot. Also, Red Rock Canyon is on my list of places to go next time we visit. I guess its true about the grass always being greener because I can't think of good locations to shoot where I am.
Oh, and I'm totally envious of your 24-70 and Lisa's 24-105. I want a new lens...
It looks like you have to sign up for a tour to visit the Neon Boneyard. A $15pp donation is required, but you can take photos for personal use. Sounds very cool. http://www.neonmuseum.org/tours.html
Valley of Fire looks neat too. It'll be a great place to test the range on your new lens. Have fun!
Hehe. I didn't even think about that. That would be less than ideal.
