I've been working on going through some of our files to make room and also to reorganize some things and have a couple of questions:
How long do you keep bills (i.e. electric, gas, phone etc.)?
How long do you keep EOBs from the insurance company?
Bank statements?
I don't know if there are certain rules of thumb on any of these but I have them for years - i.e. I have bank statements from my high school checking account that has been closed for ten years...ugh!

Usually this, except bank statements. Our bank has a history online, but not a copy of each statement. We needed the statements to get a mortage because our lender would not accept print outs of the account history. Just check your bank's electronic records and if the statements are online, don't keep them.
