Got my H1N1 shot

ONE good thing about being a nurse is that I was able to get the shot at work with no wait!  Last week they weren't sure they were going to get any more in but they had it today so I just decided to bite the bullet and do it.  Unfortunately it wasn't the preservative free shot but I figured I should just take what I can get.  So glad I don't have to go to the health district and wait for hours for it.

Re: Got my H1N1 shot

  • I got mine today too. Smile My work usually does the flu shot every year (they did it earlier this year, but at the time I was in first tri with my first pregnancy and therefore they wouldn't give it to me), and this year they did the H1N1 shot too. It's nice because they just give you an appointment time (mine was 11.36am PRECISELY lol) and you're in and out in 2 mins.
  • I got my last Friday at my OBs office....I was lucky they happened to get a small shipment in that day.

Oh no that really does suck!!! Zip it! I'm sure you've heard this already but drink plenty of fluids. Hope you feel better soon.

I have heard of soooo many teachers getting it!! I hope you get well soon.  i think if I were a teacher and was PG or had young children I would definitely get it - I can't tell you how many posts on the nest/bump I have seen with parents freaking out b/c they got the flu and are either PG or have young babies and did not get vaccinated.

Luckily you don't have to worry about that and can just focus on getting yourself better!

  • Ugh - I had to wait 4 hours to get mine. But it's done now.

It was a really hard decision for me because the non adjuvanted version isn't available in our health authority yet.

Did anyone elses arm throb for days afterwards?

  • Lucky you!  I'm hoping they'll have the vaccine when we go in for our next appointment on the 20th.

Alyson, I hope you feel better soon!!

Yikes!  Take care of yourself!  I don't know why teachers aren't in the priority group.  Doesn't make sense.

I was really on the fence about it for a long time, too, but I just keep hearing about pregnant women being SOOOO sick and being on ventilators and losing their babies.  Or dying after delivery.  So I decided the benefit outweighs the risk.  My arm is a little tender, but only to touch.

Mine felt kind of numbly sore for about 10 mins, and then it was totally fine. Ben's ached for about a day though, and another coworker said the same thing - so it must just depend on the person?

I'm in the wimpy category then, because it ached for 3 days, I couldn't sleep on that side.  Maybe because the nurse put the flu and H1N1 in the same arm??

Maybe this.  I had them in opposite arms, one week apart.  Some people just get different reactions - doesn't make you a wimp!  Haha.  One of my co-workers said she felt weird for like 4 days, and other co-workers actually got sick (aches, fever).

My arm hurt for about 2 days after I got the regular flu shot so I think it would have been worse if I had gotten both at the same time!

FWIW - My arm hurt for a couple days after too. Got them about a week apart in opposite arms.
