Double date ?

Ok, I am only 18 (yes, I know I'm young...) and my husband and I are on Osan Air Base in ROK. We have some friends that have a 2 year old daughter, and I am wondering about some good ideas for a double date with a 2 year old and an 18 year old... No drinking (that's the "big thing" around here), and preferably something that the daughter would enjoy?

We've thought about doing a movie/game night at our house (we live just 5 minutes off base) and things like that, but we also would like to do something outside of our homes. There's bowling, but other than that, what could we do?

Any ideas are appreciated!

Re: Double date ?

  • I'm 25 and my friends and I still like to go to Chuck E. Cheese.... that might just be us though :)
  • There isn't a chuck-e-cheese here i don't think :(
  • I assume you mean a daytime date (don't most 2 year olds go to bed??).  I think brunch and a trip to a zoo or aqarium would be really fun.
  • Hi!  My daughter just turned 2... everything is new to her.  We went to a party this past summer where the hostess (a good friend) pulled out an old "Little Tykes" giant plastic doll house with crazy miss matched furniture/figurines that she had found second hand and had cleaned up.

My daughter spent the whole party playing with it which was awesome.  At 2 their mental development/attention span is very limited so creative play with toys is perfect - a movie may not hold her very long...

If you can find some second hand things and clean them up - it would do wonders for her and her mother will be so grateful to actually be able to eat/drink/play games etc.

If you can entertain at your home that might be best - otherwise a restaurant where young children/infants are accepted (they usually have high chairs, children's menu, crayons etc.)   Bowling, stores etc. anything high sensory tends to lead to a 2 year old melt down... if you entertain them at your home the mother can also put the 2 year old in a pack-n-play for a nap and it won't be as rough as if you are out and about.

Good Luck!  You seem very considerate and nice.

  • Mini golf & go cart riding (the baby can sit in someone's lap)

My sister has a two year old, and she is well behaved in restaurants as long as it's before her bedtime!  We've taken her to fancy-ish places that I wouldn't normally think a child would like and she was fine with it.

A zoo or aquarium, or a natural science museum

  • Ava is very sweet and curious. She has just learned to share her things and loves to walk around the room handing things to people. There is a very limited selection of things on base that we can choose from. We are open to entertaining at our apartment, but we just recently moved in and we really don't have much. Two card games and a TV.

On base, there is a bowling alley, a movie theater, Chile's, and the bx food court has a children's play area. We are in South Korea, and the main attractions are usually a 2 hour train ride into Seoul or one of the close cities.

I am new here and Sonia and Don (Ava's parents) are our first friends. I invited them over for dinner sometime this week or next, and we are talking about doing something on Thanksgiving together (my husband has to work on Thanksgiving Day -- our first holiday as a married couple -- so I am doing my best to keep from being lonely).

Thank you so much for the advice. My mom offered to mail over some toys and such if I want them, and they should get here fairly soon.. a week or so.. Anyway, thank you!

  • That's very sweet.  The toys will come in handy - especially if they come over a lot.  Good Luck.
