Good zip code to live in?

75201?

DH and I are looking for a house to live if/when we transfer to Dallas in January.  Is this a good zip code to live in?  Is it safe and in a good area?

If not/so - what are the SAFE, good areas of Dallas to live in?  Like zip code wise, so I know what to avoid :)

Thanks!!

Re: Good zip code to live in?

  • 75201 is downtown or at least close to downtown. That's my office zip code. Are you wanting to stay close to that area? or would you be willing to move north? I live in 75248 and really like it. I'm not sure if you can narrow "safe" neighborhoods down by zip code. There are always pockets of areas that aren't the greatest.

  • zipcode isn't the best thing to go by, especially in dallas.  75214 has 500k houses and boarded up run down houses.

if you do want to look at houses in that area you can probably tell by looking for houses for sale then looking at street view in google maps.  we were able to narrow down neighborhoods we did not want to live in that way

  • I live in 75201 and love it.  :)  You don't always have to go north to find a good place to live.

  • I would agree that zip code isn't a great indicator of safety or niceness in the Dallas area.  When we were in Dallas we lived just north of northwest hwy and absolutely loved the area.  We were renting though and that area is pricy to buy in but super nice.

  • I feel safe in my zip code! 75229. Our area is older houses (1950's) so the neighborhood has everything from the original homeowners to younger couples. I feel fairly centrally located to everything.

  • Do you mind me asking what your budget is? Are you wanting a home with a yard or a condo? That might help us find you something appropriate.

I found it really easy to search by zip code when looking for houses. Zip codes we searched before finding our house: 75214, 75206,  75209, 75238, 75225, 75205 (the last two are very expensive neighborhoods that didn't fit our budget, but I always looked just to see!)

You can also look up the crime statistics on the Dallas Police website for any particular zip code.
