MIL vent

My mother in law is driving me crazy.  She constantly questions DH and my parenting decisions, especially if it differs from what SIL does.  She constantly nags about us turning DS forward facing in the car, which we have told her we will do when DC#2 comes.

Her newest thing is that she is making me feel terrible for not getting DS vacinated against H1N1.  She's been trying to guilt me (how would you feel if we lost him, I think you should go against your gut and do it, all the doctors recommend it, etc, etc.)  He will never get the regular flu shot, and I do not feel that they have done enough testing on the H1N1.  Besides, it is OUR decision, not hers.

And...to top things off, while I have been off sick, she has gone into my work and talked to my manager, about how capable my store is about covering my shifts, discussing my illness and discussing my pregnancy.  Should I tell them not to talk to her anymore?  When I had DS she went in and told everyone he was born, she also called DH's work and our church, and she told them all the wrong name!  Some days I want to strangle her!

Re: MIL vent

  • wow she is over the top. Some of it is typical MIL stuff I think, but going to your workplace is pretty nuts!
  • That's so annoying.

Not "all" the doctors recommend it. I read an article just yesterday from some MD who is head of provincial health care (or something...) and he thinks this is being blown way out of proportion. I think he said that although it's more contagious, it's less serious than seasonal flu. He gave numbers that indicated that they expect something like 200 - 300 people to die frm H1N1- yet 4000+ die every year from seasonal flu.

I'll try to find it for you...

  • re: H1N1 - I agree that the seasonal flu is more deadly. What has me freaked out is that H1N1 is targeting age groups that do not normally die from the seasonly flu. Perfectly healthy people my age are dying from H1N1. A 2 year old baby from London died last week from it - again a healthy baby. That is what has me freaked out and on the fence about if I should get the shot or not. So confusing. I hate that your MIL is making you feel guilty about your decision. Is she going to get the shot?

re: work - that is 5 kind of ways messed up. I would have a talk with her (or have your husband talk to her) about how she should not be going into your workplace and how it will not be tolerated.

  • She did get the vaccine, even though she isn't in any of the risk groups.
