I have been a contractor worker through 3 different companies since moving to Cincinnati and one of those jobs turned into a permanent position which i'm in now. I have been thinking of finding a new job and a contract company called me with a possibility.
Here's the thing.. it would be more money and better hours at a company people have actually heard of, but the job title is a down grade and so is the environment i'd be working in. The place is out of date with all it's lab equipment and i know of 2 people who have been fired from there last week alone.
I guess my question is...what would you do? Would you be willing to go back to contract/temp work if you have a permanent position at a decent company? I know i want to move forward with my career, but i'm very hesitant to go back to contract/temp work knowing how unstable the economy is. Any advice would be awesome! THANKS!
Re: For anyone who is or has been a contractor/temp..come on in! Kinda long..
I've been a temp at the same position for five years. Still waiting to get hired on.
Anyway, in this economy, I would probably not move back into temp work.
For most companies, temps are the first ones to go when things get bad, and that's something that I think about almost daily. Many of our temps have already been let go, but not one permanent employee yet.
Maybe when things pick up, but no, right now, I wouldn't do it.
GL!
