scar cream recs needed

Hi girls - anyone have a rec for a scar cream?  I had surgery on my neck last week (they took out the right side of my thyroid, had a huge growth) and the doc said I can start massaging and applying cream to it next week.  The doc's office mentioned Mederma so I ordered some but it has mixed reviews online so I thought I'd see if anyone had a good experience with either Mederma or another cream.

I also had surgery in September to remove my gallbladder so I can also use it on those scars.  It's been a long two months :)

Thanks!

Re: scar cream recs needed

  • sorry about all that surgery!! no idea about the creams but wanted to mention that if you are ok w/your skin being temporarily orange, that curcumin works really well.  it is a root that looks like ginger but when you cut it open it is orange inside - it's been shown to help with skin healing and is what my mom would rub on my scrapes/wounds when I was a little kid to help minimize scarring.  she would just cut it open and rub it on there, or cut off a small piece and make a slight paste with it and rub it on

not sure where you can get it but since you are in the LA area I know you can get it at most Asian supermarkets so I would check there.

  • my sister is a dermatologist and she swears by Mederma too. i haven't used it myself though. hope your healing goes well!
  • I know several people in Australia that have used Bio-Oil to help, but I think that's only useful for small scars...that's all I've got, sorry. Sad
