What do you use to budget?

I'm looking for a good template/spreadsheet or maybe a website that has a good format. Any suggestions?

Re: What do you use to budget?

  • We just use excel....but occasionally we upload our data to mint.com
  • I was just on mint but it asks for your user name & password for your accounts. I wasn't sure about that. Do you use this feature?

    Yes we do.

  • Thanks, it made me nervous. I think I'll give it a shot.
  • I just used excel too. But I just put in our monthly expenses (regular bills plus grocery store food, gas, etc) to see how much we have left for fun stuff and how much I can transfer to our savings each month. I don't do it every month, just when our money intake or output changes enough for me to go back through (like now that that we've bought the house).
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Mint.com is pretty popular.  If you want to use Excel, check out the bio of MrsZubterfuge.  She has tons of downloadable budget spreadsheets there.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • I use Excel pretty much the same way as MrsC.
  • I just use excel, but I only keep track of expenses, not income- I leave that for the checkbook. DH has a program that keeps track of everything, and is much fancier and more organized than my color-coded spreadsheet. I can find out what program it is.
  • I use Microsoft Money.  I don't have it working perfectly (a little complicated) but I can at least use it to track income and expenses.  I just have a little trouble getting it to balance out my accounts.
  • * whispering * we don't use a budget Zip it!

I've never really been able to figure one out (basically w/food shopping) but when I do budget, our expenses always seem more than our income so I quit. It makes me too depressed.

  • Honestly, we just use GoogleDocs' spreadsheet... that way we both can access it if we need to.

Confused I hate money. I try to ignore it and hope it takes care of itself. I'm very mature in that way Stick out tongue ...
