We're trying to pick a carseat for P. We have it narrowed down to 2. The first is $110 and holds up to 22lbs. The second is $150 but holds up to 32lbs.
Is the $40 worth the extra 10lbs we'll get out of it?
If we'll get another 2 months or so out of the carseat then I don't mind going for the more expensive one. But if we'd only get another month...I'm not so sure. How fast do babies grow?
Re: Mom's...help please
is thesecond one you mentioned an infant seat? like the one you take in and out of the car when they are small?
you prob already know this, but they are to be rear facing until 1 year AND 20 pounds, or longer.
Yes. They are both infant seats with bases so you can remove the actual seat in and out as needed.
well if this helps, I used the infant seat with the base until Elise was about 18 lbs but then it was too dang heavy to carry around everywhere, so I switched to a regular car seat you leave in and she sat rear facing in that till she was 1 and 20 lbs. Then I turned it.
So if it's an infant seat, you may not really want to spend the extra for them to be bigger in it because it's so heavy to carry.
I agree with Christen. I was really ready to change from the infant seat by the time she was old enough. She was big enough way before that. It just gets too heavy.
Get the cheap one, then spend your money on the toddler seat. Get a comfy one with cup holders that converts to a booster. We got one cheap one and one nice one, and I hate the one in DH's truck.
Excellent point, ladies. I hadn't even thought that with the 30lb kid + a 10lb carseat, I'd be lugging 40lbs around! No thank you.
Cheaper one it is...
It's become my bible.
agreed. i did exactly what christen and cissy_strut said.
once the babies were able to sit up unassisted and too heavy to carry the infant seat, we switched.
Hmmm after reading everyone else's responses, maybe I'll consider an alternative.
Are you ladies talking about a convertible that can be rear facing for remainder of the 1 yr then flips forward?
yes. Elise is in a convertible that was rear facing, now we've got it forward facing.
Yes, we first had infant seats and then bought convertible seats that are rear facing, later to be turned forward facing.
I also wanted to add that the AAP is considering changing their carseat policy in 2010 to recommend rear-facing carseats for 2 years instead of 1. They are saying studies show rear-facing is safer.
Our pedi also recommended the same. I am going to keep my kids rear-facing for as long as possible, hopefully they make it to age 2 before hitting the car seat limits.
I would have liked to keep DD rear facing for longer, that's something DH and my mom and I argued over. I was outvoted. Honestly though, it's so much easier for long rides like we frequently have. I can hand her snacks easily and I keep a basket of toys next to me that I can hand her one at a time to occupy her. It's much easier now that she's F-facing.
