Do any of you have a home alarm or know anything about it? I am looking into getting something for my house but I have no idea where to start or even how much it would cost. Any help would be great!
Re: home alarm
We have Brinks/Broadview. Since the previous owners already had a system in place (with a different company), they only had to come install their equipment which was $99. We pay $29.99 a month for the monitoring fee. Fortunately, we've never had to use it but the couple times that I've accidently tripped it, the response time has been great.
However, you do have to have a home phone to get that particular "package".
Our new house has a system in it. We called ADT to get it monitored. Since our system is old, we have to get a new panel and a new box. Not all of the windows have sensors on them, and one of the doors doesn't.
Our quote for doing a new system, panel, 6 windows, 2 doors, the cellphone thing (instead of a landline), wired smoke detector, and wired carbon monoxide monitoring was about $1200 initial set up fee. Then, it would be about $40/month for monitoring.
We got this quote this past Saturday.
It will bring your homeowners insurance down.
I have the same thing as Shoe, except we pay an extra 2 or 3 dollars to get the fire monitoring too.
Call around and do some negotiating. I don't think we paid anything for them to come and put in their system. Some other company already had the house wired, so Brinks wanted to come and put their equipment in.
It is so worth the money for the peace of mind. I've had my house broken into before (no one was home). It was a horrible feeling. No way I'm letting that happen ever again.
We actually have fire monitoring too. But we don't pay extra for it. Someone misquoted me and I made them stand by that.
Good point!
