Ok girls...i know it seems like it is a long time away but i know that Christmas is going to be here before we know it. I was talking to my DH the other day about lights for the house and he does now want to put them up till esarly december! I don't want to be out in the cold putting lights up for the first time at the house. I am hoping to have them up this weekend, then start turning them on after thanksgiving, and I want to start putting other items up in the house little by little.
When will you ladies start putting things up???
Re: when to start decorating
I always start the day after Thanksgiving. I usually spend Friday, Saturday, and Sunday decorating. I'm excited to do it this year because we are in a new house.
You could be like my in-laws and start decorating the first week in October!!! My FIL is obsessed with Christmas lights on the house. We literally call it the Griswald house! I'm sure many people have seen it if they live on the West side. He usually makes the paper every year. He now has everything up but he doesn't do the "official" lighting until the day after Thanksgiving. Then he stops turning them on the day after Christmas and they are all down before Jan 1.
But... I think when people put up outside lights early, but don't turn them on until after Thanksgiving, that's reasonable. Especially if you have a lot of lights.

I will put up my tree and decorate after Thanksgiving. This is the first year we have had a house to decorate outside so I am not sure if I am going to do anything outside or not. I have a few outdoor decorations that I will put out, just not sure about lights on the house just yet. I guess it all depends on how froggy I am feeling after Thanksgiving!
If it makes you feel any better a few streets down from mine the people put their lights up this past weekend and they have been ON... a little early in my opinion!
Our tradition in my family is to put up the tree on Thanksgiving day. Usually everything comes the day before or after that.
Let me just tell you....people in our neighborhood already have Holiday decor out! I was SHOCKED when I saw it. I thought I put up Holiday decor early! NOOOOO...two houses had lights up already. One had huge signs and wreaths/garland.. not going to lie, altough I think it's crazy, secretly I LOVE IT
HAHAHA
Here is a good reason to start now! A girl from my anniversary board did a story on it.

If we don't go out the day before thanksgiving we will do them then. If not, then we do them that Saturday after thanksgiving.
Growing up we always decorated the Friday after Thanksgiving. Well DH put up all of our Christmas decorations this past weekend, but we won't turn them on until Thanksgiving or so. He wants to put up the tree here soon.
If you think that's bad, my MIL has had her stuff up since the week before HALLOWEEN. She has tons of stuff too, trees in all 3 bedrooms and the living room, certain pictures taken down and Christmas stuff put up, Christmas towels in all the bathrooms, Christmas shower curtains, all beds get Christmas quilts, etc. You get the idea, she gets a little crazy over Christmas.
