Not sure if you all saw the ?water bottles leaking chemicals? story yesterday on the Today Show. I guess they got alot of response from the story so they are doing a follow up today. I didn't think the Today Show did a good job yesterday and clearly I wasn't the only one.

I've heard that as well. Dr Aukerman at OSU is a big believer in plastic contaminating water and food from the packaging. (A friend of mine goes to him and he recommended only glass containers.) Personally, I figure that there's so many little things in the world, that I'm not really going to die or anything from drinking from a plastic bottle. Just my thoughts :-)

I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't listen to every single little warning. I try to be observant, but I don't go overboard with everything. It seems like every week, there's something new that we should avoid -- lead paint on toys, plastic baby bottles, plastic baby food containers, baby lotion with damaging chemicals.....it's overwhelming!

I agree. I put my bottles in the diswasher b/c I go through 12 per day and I don't want to wash them all and all their parts. And I don't want to go out and buy 12 glass bottles. If my boys end up being infertile when they are adults they can blame me. By then they'll be making all babies in test tubes anyway.

My feeling is that yes, there are a ton of things in the environment that can make me sick but if I know that something probably will at least I can try to avoid it. Why put myself at greater risk if it's just not necessary?
If you don't know that something can hurt you, that's one thing but knowing about it and choosing to ignore it is something else entirely. After all, people used to think smoking was a healthy habit.

do you really think people thought smoking was "healthy"? I don't think so. Maybe they thought it wasn't harmful but not healthy.

I understand where you're coming from, busty, but I guess my view is just that if we avoid everything we're told could hurt us - we wouldn't be able to eat or drink anything. Or drive to the store to buy anything to eat or drink.

Yeah there's definitely a fine line between caution and obsession. Now if I could just channel my obsessive energies into organizing the house I'd be golden.
