finished the nursery today! :)

I decided that since the nest ate my previous bio, I'd just put my nursery pics there - link

we tried to create the nursery on a $600 budget and we did pretty good if you don't count the accessories or paint supplies.  It was hard not to do something super girly and cute on the walls but I wanted the walls to be gender neutral so we wouldn't have to paint it again if #2 is a boy.

for those who don't feel like clicking on the link here are a few pics

  • Very cute!  C'mon baby!  What a great birthday present for you to go into labor!
  • OMG, I can't believe the AWESOME craigslist finds you scored!  The nursery looks amazing, and I have such respect for people who do it on a reasonable budget!  It's so easy to get carried away unnecessarily... you've really inspired me!

  • I love it soooo much - it turned out GREAT!

I have a couple questions, if you don't mind...I've read that using bumpers and quilts (from the bedding sets) increase the risk of SIDS - do you know if that's true? (I noticed you had them up so I just thought maybe it's an exaggerated risk and not really something to worry about.)

The other question is kind of a statement, I guess - I really like the look of white furniture, but someone warned me not to get it because it shows scratches easily. Have you noticed any issues with yours? (I know they're new, but I figured that if it really scratches THAT easily - which I kind of doubt - you'd be able to see while assembling them.)

  • Looks fantastic and I love the sheep mural!!! We're also paitning our nursery yellow too. I just love that color on walls. Its such a happy color. Great job Jaime way to keep within your budget!!!

:::butting in here, hope you don't mind!

In regards to the bumpers/quilts & SIDS, it is true that most SIDS experts advise not to use them unless they are the "breathable" kind. I will admit that we used the more traditional bumpers that came with DD's bedding, but we also made sure to have the air circulating in her nursery, and she didn't sleep with any blankets of any kind until she was a bit older....

We also have white (antique white) furniture and it has held up really great. The only scratch on the crib is one that my DH made when he accidentally bumped the crib with a pink stool.

    HTH!

  • Wow, amazing room on an even more amazing budget - great work mama!!  I love the walls, so very cool, and that you incorporated the girly with the bedding and accessories (like the changing pad cover) - very clever :)
  • Awww , that is super cute. I so admire your budget skills. It looks beautifu!

  • Wow, that's gorgeous--I'm really loving it! It's so cute! I can't believe you guys painted that mural yourselves!! Looks so professional--you guys are natural artists =) The CL furniture looks great (and in excellent condition) too--did you get it all from the same person or separately? They match so well!

  • Beautiful! So peaceful! Love the door decor - Shhh!

FYI - We have that same little lamb infant seat and Alexa LOVES it... Probably the single thing we use the MOST. We took the attached mirror/hanging toy off because she didn't care for it as an infant but we just put it back on and now that she's looking at things she loves it.

Sweet, thank you! This might be a dumb question, but does it say on the package if they're the "breathable" kind of bumper?

  • It's lovely Jamie.  Now we just need to get your little girl here!

they were all separate finds! I can't tell you how long I looked for a rocker or glider that was upholstered... I was stalking CL daily for a few months but in the end it was worth it! esp since those pieces have a slipcover, we were able to take it off and wash them and then they looked like new again! :)

Wow, I'm impressed =) Glad all your persistence paid off!! I definiteiy would prefer a upholstered rocker/glider too =)
