mrspresley (and any other bakers)
Hi Jaime
My FSIL has taken a few cake decorating courses and loves making cakes. I drew her name in the Christmas draw so I'm thinking I'd like to get her some stuff to make cakes.
I bought her some shaped pans, a fancy cupcake pan and a set of round tiered cake pans.
But there were lots of other things in the cake aisle at Michaels like piping tips etc.
As someone who bakes, what would you prefer as a gift? A variety of pans or a few pans and some decorating tools.
Thanks for your advice!
Re: mrspresley (and any other bakers)
hmmm it depends I guess on what she already has... I am not a big cake decorator (pretty lacking in that skills department!) but if she is taking the classes and enjoys it then I am sure she would enjoy some decorating tools....(I would personally just want the pans b/c I don't decorate much)....problem is, she has probably purchased some for her class already so it would be hard to know what she needs/wants
things she might find useful are
cake turntable to make icing cakes easier
cake leveler
various sized icing spatulas
some baking books? maybe a cupcake one? I can get some suggestions from other bakers if you'd like them.

Good point about her already owning the decorating tools.
Your suggestions are great! Thanks so much!
Now get out and go for a walk

I agree with PP, it would really depend on what she's already got. I'm pretty sure that when you take one of those Wilton classes, you have to buy a basic kits of tools, so she's probably already have those.
A variety of pans is good idea. I also like the idea of a turntable. You could also get consumable things like pots of food dye or packages of fondant.
I agree with PP, it would really depend on what she may already. Sounds like you have got some great items already.
Sometimes when I bake, it maybe for friends or work and I am always trying find a nice portable container to carry the yummies in, particulary for round cakes. I have a rectangular one with a detachable handle, that I absolutley love and got from Tupperware a few years ago. When I was at the PNE this past summer in Van, I was suprised to see that they still sell them.
You guys rock!
Thanks so much for all your ideas!! I think I'm going to pick up a cake decorating turn table with the 40% off coupon I got from Michaels!
