So I am trying to pick out my own present this year, haha... and I have wanted a gps for awhile.... so I was looking at the garmin nuvi 255wt at best buy today, it is on sale for $180, but I have been reading reviews saying the directions sometimes lead you way out the way and does not take you the shortest way to get there, and that it loses connection also... so does anyone have this model or can you recommend one? The features I like about this one is it has traffic updates, 4.3'' screen, and voice street directions. TIA!!
Re: which GPS?
I generally recommend Garmins (I used to have the Nuvi 200 - never had any issues with it loosing connection or taking oddball routes) because they tend to be more user friendly. After that I'd go with Magellan. I DO NOT recommend a Tom Tom. Are there any particular features you really want (advance lane guidane, life time traffic, spoken street names)? I might be able to give you a better recommendation if you have any features in mind...I used to work for Best Buy
ETA: Duh, I should have read your last sentence before posting! The Garmin 265wt would have everything you want, and seems to include the cord needed for the lifetime traffic updates. It's online only at bestbuy.com though. Definitely make sure you don't need a different adapter if you get one with the traffic updates...a lot of times you need a special transmitter to enable that feature. My mom got a Magellan RoadMate 1440 and really likes it; the only downside is that you do need that extra traffic link accessory for the traffic updates to work. Let me know if you have any questions on any units! I think the one you're looking at would be a good choice, just remember to check on that adapter!
I have the garmin nuvi and LOVE LOVE it! It's the one with the flat screen and the only thing it doesn't do is say the actual street name, just tells you to turn 'right' and on the screen it tells you the street name. For the device to say the street name it was like $100/more!
I know this doesn't help you now, but on 11/7, sears.com was offering the garmin nuvi for $129! And you got free shipping with an additional $5 coupon code. Be on the look out for black friday ads because thats when I scored mine really cheap.
