Earlier last week I was told that I?m now under the finance umbrella to lessen the $ spending in our department. Fine.
I then held a meeting with my ?old? manager & ?new? finance manager asking who will be taking over my work load and when?since many of the employees want to know how much will be added to their plates (a very fair request IMO) I was then told that it?s ?not any of employee?s business - they will do what ever I tell them to do and when I tell them to do it? by the finance manager - and that while I am still here I am to be still doing ?my normal stuff?. ok
This is the 3rd time now this week that I?m being trained on how to do something new for finance. If I?m still doing ALL my normal stuff?why the hell am I learning more? This new training is putting my normal duties behind schedule; and stressing me out more than ever
- I already have plenty of work to do!!!!
Finance is known to ?slave drive? their workers and it seems that HE expects that from me too. How do I tell this man (who doesn?t take well to women speaking ?out of their place?) that if I?m still doing all of MY work then I shouldn?t be taking on anything new ? especially not when I?m leaving in approximately 2 months!
It doesn?t make any sense to me?am I being unreasonable?
Any tips or suggestions?
Re: Work Vent & Q:
Hmm, really that's a tough question to answer. I don't think it's unreasonable of you to question your new duties or perhaps expect a bit more of an explanation of how your time is to be alloted.
Realistically though: welcome to the realities of today's economy. I think it's very common for companies to be downsizing and increasing the workloads of their remaining employees. We didn't rehire for a mat leave that started in June - I'm doing that job too, all while working from home.
D's company is even worse. They're running at 95% of their pre-downsizing productivity/demand but only working with 55% of the employees.
Everyone is being asked to do more for the same amount of money or even for less in some situations. It completely sucks, but I'm not sure there's much you can do about it. If you find your workload really is impossible, perhaps you could ask your boss if someone else in the department can help you.
Unfortunately if they are doing lay-offs at your work (which you mentioned before), in this situation I'd STFU and work unpaid overtime to keep up with the workload. Same thing is happening at my work
You only have 2 months left and if you really don't like the work environment in Finance when you come back from mat leave, then you can look for a different position (or who knows, it could be a different manager by then.) Good luck. It's a crappy situation. If you get really stressed to the point of being worried about your health, then you can talk to your doctor about it and you can go on medical leave.
