He made it through surgery okay, it only took 4 hours instead of the 6.5 they estimated and they didn't have to take out his whole stomach to remove the tumor.. although I didn't know they could take out your whole stomach and maybe my mom misunderstood them but wow.. He still has a long road ahead since they did remove part of his stomach and part of his esophagus and re-attached the two and then he'll have to go through a little more chemo but hopefully he'll be able to put this all behind him soon. He's in the Icu right now but I plan to send him some "manly" flowers or something once he's in a regular room..if anyone has any suggestions, I'll take them!

    Glad to hear the surgery went well!  Maybe you could bring him some newspapers or magazines to give him something to do too.
    I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

    I don't know if the hospital will allow it, but you could send a plant instead of flowers?

    I am so glad he is okay!  Granddads are precious.  I always give my Granddad sweet treats---he loves chocolates, cookies, anything that is sweet.  Maybe you could send yours some cookies or chocolates?

    He loves food too but since the surgery was on his throat and stomach, he won't be able to eat real food for a while.. Sad

    I had a feeling of that :-( I was going to suggest an edible arrangement but then realize that probably wouldn't do any good :-(

    And there are very few non-food gift basket options on google, ugh.. and one which was geared towards cancer patients had a deck of cards, a mini notebook, a little magnetic game and a pen..and it cost.. 72 freaking dollars.. it didn't even come in a basket! I think I might put something together myself and have it shipped to my grandma's hotel and she can take it to him..
