Re: ?Mamas & Mamas to Be: Weekly Check-in?
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 14 w 1d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I feel great just a little sore (hands & knees) from a fall I took at work. Baby is ok I just won't be wearing heels and learned my lesson when it comes to rushing. DON'T...just slow down.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? This Friday I have an appt with a perinatalogist to see if the rash I had effected the baby's development in anyway. Doctor would rather be safe then sorry. We have another big u/s on Dec 11th I think that's when we find out the sex of the baby.
(4) OB/GYN or Midwife? Hospital, birthing center or home? Tell us why you've made the choice you've made and whether or not you'd do it differently. The OB/GYN group I go to has midwives and doctors. So I see both doctor and midwives for check-ups and one of the midwives will coach me when I go to L&D and one of the doctors will perform the delivery. I will be delivering at the hospital. Because of my age (40) I'd rather play it safe then sorry and deliver at a hospital. Plus I really trust all the prodessional that work at the group I go to. I don't beleive I would do it any differently. I'm not a risk taker and because home birth is new as far as this generation goes I wouldn't take the risk. I commend the mother's that have decided to home birth. I'm sure their experience will be much more calm and nuturing. It's just not for me. PErhaps I'll have a different outlook after I tour the maternity ward at the hospital.
(5) Will/did baby room with you when you came home or did he/she go straight into the crib? I think we'll have a basinet by the bed in our room but may have to change that depending on my husband. If he doesn't get a good night's rest then we may have to move the baby to the nursery. I probably have to move with the baby as well.
(6) Attachment Parenting? Sleep-training? A little of both. What did/do you plan to do and why? HUH??? What's this? Never heard of either. Looks like I need to get more baby books.
(7) What's one item you've splurged on preparing for baby or since you've become a parent? Haven't bought any baby items ...unless you consider maternity clothes a baby item ;-).
(8) Date nights? Do you? If so, what/where do you do/go? For those with LOs what is your childcare arrangement for date nights? We have date nights but they aren't a set time every week. Actually my husband and I spend ALOT of time together so we don't really require date nights. I'm sure that will change when the baby arrives.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
28w1d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Having a really rough week. Feeling depressed, actually. I awoke from 5 hours of sleep crying. Don't know why, I just was...maybe I had a bad dream? I am just emotionally, mentally and physically drained right now.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
3 Hour Glucose Test on Friday. We also go to the anethesiologist's office to register for an epidural.
(4) OB/GYN or Midwife? Hospital, birthing center or home? Tell us why you've made the choice you've made and whether or not you'd do it differently.
OB/GYN and Hospital because that's what my insurance pays for...any other option would be $3-5K out of pocket for us. And if I am considered "high risk" it wouldn't be an option anyway. We are considering hiring a doula, but are waiting to see if I'll even be able to attempt a natural labor once we know the results of my GD test. I feel that I could avoid pain meds if I am allowed to start labor on my own, but if I have to be induced, I am pretty sure that will mean an epidural for sure. And that might all lead to a c-section, neither of which require the services of a doula.
(5) Will/did baby room with you when you came home or did he/she go straight into the crib?
We got an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper that will be on my side of the bed for when she comes home. We hope to have her there for the first 3-4 months and then move her into her own room/crib.
(6) Attachment Parenting? Sleep-training? A little of both. What did/do you plan to do and why?
We're going with Attachment Parenting as much as can work with our schedules/lifestyle. When I go back to work fulltime, some of it will be a challenge. I am not a fan of the "cry it out" method until they are toddlers or older.
(7) What's one item you've splurged on preparing for baby or since you've become a parent?
Nothing really, except maybe a new camera, which technically will be my 35th birthday present. We've bought most things second-hand. My mom has purchased the majority of baby-related stuff for us...God bless her!
(8) Date nights? Do you? If so, what/where do you do/go? For those with LOs what is your childcare arrangement for date nights?
We try to have one or two a month, even if they are at home...renting a movie and making a nice dinner together, planning time out in the park together, etc. Once our LO is here, I hope to have one a month (at least)...my mom will most likely babysit so we can go out for dinner and a movie or something.
(9) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?
(10) For mommies: most overrated baby "neccessity"? And your number-one "must-have" besides the basics (diapers, wipes, place to sleep, carseat, etc.)

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
20weeks2days
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Finally got a full night's sleep last night!!! Neti pot is finally paying off, so thanks for all those who recommended it!
Baby is also getting more and more active, which is really fun to experience.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Next appt in about 3 weeks.
(4) OB/GYN or Midwife? Hospital, birthing center or home? Tell us why you've made the choice you've made and whether or not you'd do it differently.
I am very open to the advantages of a midwife, but I feel most comfortable with my regular OB and delivering in a hospital. I also want to know that my baby and I will be immediately tended to in case of an emergency.
I am reading up on natural births, though, because I don't want to immediately assume that I need an epidural or certain interventions, and I want to feel comfortable in my body's ability to birth our baby on its own. I am also trying to learn some techniques for helping labor to progress naturally. Finally, I really enjoy talking to people who have done it meds-free, so that I gain confidence and rid my mind of that screaming-birthing-mother image that the media loves to portray.
(5) Will/did baby room with you when you came home or did he/she go straight into the crib?
He/she will sleep next to us at first, but I plan to gradually move him/her further away until he/she is comfortable sleeping in the nursery across the hall. That sounds terrible, but I feel very protective of the husband-wife relationship, so I'm already thinking a lot about transitioning baby to the crib, since many of my friends have had a really tough time with this.
(6) Attachment Parenting? Sleep-training? A little of both. What did/do you plan to do and why?
Huh? Not familiar with these particular terms.
BUT, I hope to raise a securely attached child... though I'm not sure about my precise method for dealing with crying or sleeping yet. Probably will depend a lot on my child's temperament and personal needs/habits.
(7) What's one item you've splurged on preparing for baby or since you've become a parent?
Nothing yet. Bought a couple things here and there, but not planning to spend too much if we can avoid it. We'll get lots of hand-me-downs as the date approaches.
(8) Date nights? Do you? If so, what/where do you do/go? For those with LOs what is your childcare arrangement for date nights?
We try to have a date night once a week, but nothing really elaborate. Just time together to hang out and not be busy working on something. Once baby arrives, I'm not sure how it'll work, but as long as he/she will take a bottle, our parents will be available to babysit when needed. As the LO grows, we plan to do once-a-month family theme nights and hope to maintain that tradition until our kids are all grown.
(9) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
we made it to 40 weeks!!!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
tired and uncomfortable due to sleepless nights
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
yesterday we tried a few different labor induction techniques...then last night I started having contractions around midnight... they were not regular, but they were regular enough to keep me from sleeping... around 5:30am they were frequent enough that I decided I should start timing them.... they came every 5 min until 7am, at which point I had two 15 min apart, then the rest were anywhere from 3-10 min apart until 8:30am - at this point I decided to call the Ob's office and they told me just to come in. I told MH I didn't think we should go in b/c the contractions were tapering off, not getting closer, but he said we should go in just in case (I think he just wanted an excuse to take the morning off from work!!!!)... so we did...and after waiting over an hour to be seen I was given the news that everything was still exactly the same as it was yesterday but that the contractions were good b/c it was a sign my body was trying.
so now we are back to watching and waiting for this LO to be born! next "appointment" is Sunday evening at 9pm when we are to check in to the hospital to prep for induction on Monday.
(4) OB/GYN or Midwife? Hospital, birthing center or home? Tell us why you've made the choice you've made and whether or not you'd do it differently.
the baby will be delivered by an Ob at the hospital. we are both medical-oriented and want to have the baby in the hospital so that if there are any emergent complications, we'll have the best chances of a positive outcome. I totally respect and wish I could do the drug free birth from home or birthing center like some women do, but the risk/prospect of complications scares me too much - I know too much medicine and about what could happen to me or the baby to give birth outside of a hospital setting.
(5) Will/did baby room with you when you came home or did he/she go straight into the crib?
she'll go straight to the crib. I know it's controversial but on average a baby that doesn't cosleep grows up to be more independent and well adjusted. my cousin found this out the hard way w/her two daughters (one did and one didn't cosleep). sure there are lots of kids that cosleep and are fine, but that's what studies show about the "average" child that cosleeps so we are going to try to get her in the crib right away (plus we want to get as much use out of the cute nursery that we worked so hard on!)
(6) Attachment Parenting? Sleep-training? A little of both. What did/do you plan to do and why?
a little bit of both... though mostly attachment parenting. we'll be doing sleep training but there are a lot of principles from attached parenting that we also plan to adhere to....the baby will be breastfed, I plan to wear the baby instead of using a stroller for most outings, we firmly believe in the power of touch, etc. really the only part of attachment parenting we won't be following is in regards to sleep training.
(7) What's one item you've splurged on preparing for baby or since you've become a parent?
these glass keepsakes
(8) Date nights? Do you? If so, what/where do you do/go? For those with LOs what is your childcare arrangement for date nights?
I think we definitely need to do this after the LO is born but it will be hard to work around MH's schedule since he only gets 4 days off per month and they are at random times of the month.
currently we have date nights about once a month...nothing big/fancy but we'll at least go out or rent a movie

Can I add me and Kai. I am just gonna talk about him until I go to my first Dr appt on Dec 7th with #2.
Kai Adam born 2.16.08
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?Kai is almost 22 months.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Sick.
(3) Next appointment date? Dec 7 for #2 Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
(4) OB/GYN or Midwife? Had both but didnt get either because Kai came too fast.Hospital, birthing center or home? hospitalTell us why you've made the choice you've made and whether or not you'd do it differently. I actually might go to the hospital a tad earlier. I maybe labored for 1 hour before we went. For #2 we were told we have to go ASAP because #2 come much quicker and Sean will have to learn how to deliver just in case.
(5) Will/did baby room with you when you came home or did he/she go straight into the crib? Yeah right! Literrally slept ON me for th efirst 5-6 months. Then in between us. Still in our bed. He hates the crib. Gonna try a big boy bed soon (please God help me).
(6) Attachment Parenting? Sleep-training? A little of both. What did/do you plan to do and why? Nothing worked for him he still has neve rslept through the night.
(7) What's one item you've splurged on preparing for baby or since you've become a parent? My strollers (still with a coupon though)! Love them all for different reasons. We have the Chicco for when he was little, the BON jogging stroller for the beach, walks, etc and the Maclaren umbrella for everyday use.
(8) Date nights? Do you? If so, what/where do you do/go? For those with LOs what is your childcare arrangement for date nights? lol we mayeb went out once or twice BUT now it is my issue. I am with him ALL DAY EVERY DAY that I dont know how to be without him. Plus he doesnt want to stay at grammy and grandpas house naymore for sleep overs.
(9) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?
(10) For mommies: most overrated baby "neccessity"? And your number-one "must-have" besides the basics (diapers, wipes, place to sleep, carseat, etc.)For overrated, it will be (for us) the crib! lol followed by the STUPID HATE IT Diaper Genie. What a waste of $. I ended up using a trash can with a lid that is SO much better.
My favorite is My Skip Hop two bottle bag. Has a place for ice packs to keep bottles cold. Also has room for some snacks.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? Brooke is almost 6 months!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling ridiculously tired today. Had a bad night last night, but I'm very lucky that bad nights are few and far between. New milestones include rolling over (both ways), loads of babbling and she is getting HARD to hold! (Wants to squirm all over the place, touch everything, etc, etc).
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? B. has a 6 month checkup on the 20th with more vaccinations.
Boo...
(4) OB/GYN or Midwife? Hospital, birthing center or home? Tell us why you've made the choice you've made and whether or not you'd do it differently. OBGYN/hospital. I didn't even consider any other choices and I wouldn't consider any other choices for the next baby.
(5) Will/did baby room with you when you came home or did he/she go straight into the crib? B. slept in the pack n play in our room for awhile and now we're trying to transition into crib (still in our room). She has never slept in bed with us. I think eventually putting the crib in her room will not be too big a transition since she's already sleeping in a separate bed from us.
(6) Attachment Parenting? Sleep-training? A little of both. What did/do you plan to do and why? I'm not really familiar with these terms. I didn't read a bunch of books or anything... actually, I didn't read any books. I don't "sleep train" or "CIO" or anything like that. When she cries, I pick her up and do what needs to be done to make her happy. For what it's worth, she's slept through the night since she was about 2 months (with the random growth spurt messing up the STTN-- like last night) and she's an incredibly happy baby. ?? Not super sure what the Q is asking.
(7) What's one item you've splurged on preparing for baby or since you've become a parent? I haven't really splurged on too much, but my mom splurged on our stroller (Bugaboo Bee) and it's awesome.
(8) Date nights? Do you? If so, what/where do you do/go? For those with LOs what is your childcare arrangement for date nights? B. comes along with us on our date nights.
She is my little trooper and goes galavanting with us everywhere.
(9) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?
(10) For mommies: most overrated baby "neccessity"? And your number-one "must-have" besides the basics (diapers, wipes, place to sleep, carseat, etc.) Not sure. . . don't really have a "must-have," I guess. We just use the necessities. She likes her Sophie toy though.

I just love reading about everyone's progress, and can't wait to join the club myself!
(9) For TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?
I am on cycle 4 TTC after a dreadfully looooong cycle 3 (47 days). I had used OPKs for cycle 2, but didn't for cycle 3, then regretted it, since I have no idea what was going on. So, this cycle I used an OPK every day until it gave me a very clear positive. I also just started charting this month. I am currently 7 dpo, so it's a waiting game!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
26w6d - OMG, third tri already!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Exhausted and irritable today. Hope it's not a sign of things to come! Baby's movements are starting to wake me up. She is getting strong! Perhaps that's why I'm exhausted...
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
I have probably my last u/s next week. If we don't get good 3D images I may pay and go to one of those 3D/4D places just for fun. No results yet on my GTT. My doc said they'd only call me if something was abnormal. Oh, and my next doctor's appt is in 3 weeks, then every 2 weeks after that.
(4) OB/GYN or Midwife? Hospital, birthing center or home? Tell us why you've made the choice you've made and whether or not you'd do it differently.
OB/GYN & hospital birth. Being a NICU nurse, I'm too afraid of what could go wrong to not deliver in a hospital with a level III NICU. Plus, I think I'm too much of a wimp to go natural. I hate pain.
(5) Will/did baby room with you when you came home or did he/she go straight into the crib?
She'll sleep in the PnP in our room for the first few months, until she starts sleeping for long stretches. Don't wanna have to go to far to get her and BF.
(6) Attachment Parenting? Sleep-training? A little of both. What did/do you plan to do and why?
We're reading a couple AP books but I still don't know too much about it yet. Sounds good so far. I'll definitely be baby wearing. Not sure what sleep training is about.
(7) What's one item you've splurged on preparing for baby or since you've become a parent?
Nothing really, yet. Maybe I'll end up splurging on the Gucci diaper bag I've been drooling over? Oh! I bought a lens - Canon 24-70 2.8, which I bought mostly for taking photos of baby. For now.
(8) Date nights? Do you? If so, what/where do you do/go? For those with LOs what is your childcare arrangement for date nights?
I keep telling B we need to do more date nights. But really, we're pretty much together all the time when I'm not working so I guess we don't really need to schedule time together. We go out to eat a lot, but I really just love staying home and watching tv together. I'm such a homebody! =P
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
36w 1d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I've been feeling pretty good. I have the usual third trimester complaints like heart burn and constantly having to pee through the night.
I'm starting to get a little anxious about getting everything done and ready for the baby to come as well as Christmas. I think I'm just about ready though.
I've been having Braxton Hicks contractions since 26 weeks, but they're getting stronger and more frequent now.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Our next midwife apt is next week.
(4) OB/GYN or Midwife? Hospital, birthing center or home? Tell us why you've made the choice you've made and whether or not you'd do it differently.
We have a midwife and a doula (love them both). I've also seen an OB during this pregnancy because of my arthritus. We chose a midwife because of the time and level of care she has been able to provide. I really like my doctor, and will be happy to transfer back to her at 6 weeks post partum, but we're extremely happy with our midwife.
We'll be birthing in the hospital. I feel safer at the hospital.
(5) Will/did baby room with you when you came home or did he/she go straight into the crib?
I think he or she will speep in our room with us. I'm not entirely sure what the sleeping arrangments will be. Like alot of things we're playing that by ear.
(6) Attachment Parenting? Sleep-training? A little of both. What did/do you plan to do and why?
I'm still learning about parenting styles. I bought a sling and will be wearing the baby. I'm also interested in the EASY method that I read about in the baby whisperer. I've had alot of friends who've had success with it.
(7) What's one item you've splurged on preparing for baby or since you've become a parent?
It seems like we've spent a ton of money getting ready for baby. Russ "nested" big time this summer and did alot of work to our house. As for baby related items we splurged on our nursery furniture.
(8) Date nights? Do you? If so, what/where do you do/go? For those with LOs what is your childcare arrangement for date nights?
Our date nights usually consist of going out to dinner or ordering in and watching a movie. We try to have them every week. We are together every evening so it's easy to get time together. The tricky part is making it quality time not just watching tv. We got a hot tub this summer and it's been fantastic! We sit in there every couple nights so we get a chance to really talk and enjoy time together.

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 9w1d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? still feeling ok...boobs are not as sore and no m/s.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? I had my first appointment at the OB office Monday for b/w after being released for the RE. I actually go 11/16 to see the OB. I have appt. 12/1 with a high risk dr. to do a 1st tri screening... I hope everything is ok and I will not need to see him anymore.
(4) OB/GYN or Midwife? Hospital, birthing center or home? Tell us why you've made the choice you've made and whether or not you'd do it differently. OB and hospital I am a big wuss. I don't have not even heard of people around here birthing a home.
(5) Will/did baby room with you when you came home or did he/she go straight into the crib? It will be in our room but in it's crib. Since we only have 4 br and have 3 step kids that live with us we don't have another room so we will be sharing until we can get started building our house...hopefully we can start sometime next year.
(6) Attachment Parenting? Sleep-training? A little of both. What did/do you plan to do and why? don't really know about either of these
(7) What's one item you've splurged on preparing for baby or since you've become a parent? nothing yet I am to scared to buy anything yet...maybe after the scan I will feel better about buying something
(8) Date nights? Do you? If so, what/where do you do/go? For those with LOs what is your childcare arrangement for date nights? We do something every other weekend when the kids are at their moms. But after the LO gets here I'm sure my parents would not mind watching it or since the kids are older they will be capable of watching it also.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling good now that morning sickness is gone for good! i just hate having to use the bathroom so often, including waking up in the middle of the night. It would be so nice to be able to sleep through the night again.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Two appointments coming up this month, the quad screen on the 20th and our big u/s on the 25th. We'll be finding out the sex of the baby right before Thanksgiving.
(4) OB/GYN or Midwife? Hospital, birthing center or home? Tell us why you've made the choice you've made and whether or not you'd do it differently. OB/GYN and hospital. I just feel more comfortable with these choices in case there are any complications.
(5) Will/did baby room with you when you came home or did he/she go straight into the crib? We live in a small apartment so the baby will sleep in the same room as us. I wish we had our own place so that we could create a cute nursery like some of the other mamas here have done.
(6) Attachment Parenting? Sleep-training? A little of both. What did/do you plan to do and why? We still have to read up on parenting styles before we decide what we want to do. But who knows, what we end up doing may be totally different from what we plan to do.
(7) What's one item you've splurged on preparing for baby or since you've become a parent? We're waiting to find out the sex before making any purchases.
(8) Date nights? Do you? If so, what/where do you do/go? For those with LOs what is your childcare arrangement for date nights? We don't have designated date nights but we already spend a lot of time together. We'll go out to eat or just go out for a drive when we feel like it. I'm sure that once the baby is here, we won't have the freedom to do stuff like that as often, which is where my parents (who have been begging for a grandchild to babysit for the past 2 years) will definitely be a huge help, lol.
I wish I had a bump to show but nothing much to show yet. Maybe next week!
I'm late to the party lol!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 15 weeks, 5 days
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm feeling...allergic. LOL.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Next checkup is Dec 2, but I don't get my big ultrasound until 20 weeks, so that's not until mid-Dec.
(4) OB/GYN or Midwife? Hospital, birthing center or home? Tell us why you've made the choice you've made and whether or not you'd do it differently. OB/GYN and hospital. As a high risk patient, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it any other way (I know there are plenty of mothers who have...but I would be extremely stressed if I didn't know there were emergency staff on standby).
(5) Will/did baby room with you when you came home or did he/she go straight into the crib? Straight into the crib...provided we can get them to sleep that way lol.
(6) Attachment Parenting? Sleep-training? A little of both. What did/do you plan to do and why? We shall see.
Honestly, I think that not all approaches work for all parents OR all babies...so we'll try what we'd ideally like to do, but if it doesn't work out because our babies need a different approach, then we'll be flexible.
(7) What's one item you've splurged on preparing for baby or since you've become a parent? Nothing, yet. We literally haven't bought a single thing yet! I did spend half the day designing a nursery in Photoshop though...
