Re: I can't keep track anymore (ttc?)

  • ::raises hand halfway::

We were going to start this month, until I realized I needed to take care of the rotting stubs I call teeth first.  Hopefully I can wrap this all up in a few weeks and we can start with my next cycle.

  • We will be in a few months.  I am trying to get a little healthier before we start and I have some ongoing health issues that I am working on (getting meds straight, blood tests, etc).   How is it going for you Nova?

that's cool, it's better to get all of that straightened out beforehand.

it's not going so great and it's completely frustrating. it's been over two years and the next step is IUI, which I'm stalling on.

  • Trying again now, but frustrated because I'm going to be away on business while I O this month! Arggh!  There goes my summer baby!
  • We were, until I got this job, and then we decided to postpone for like 3 months to ensure that I have a year here to get FMLA and all that, but I just discovered that I may have to go on Lupron for my endo for SIX freaking months so TTC is a world away. Crying

Good luck though to all the TTCers.

P.S. Nova, I am so sorry. What makes you stall wrt the IUI?

  • Oh Man Nova, I am sorry that it has been tough for you.  That really sucks.  Have you tried acupuncture? I have heard that it is really helpful when TTC.  I go right now for stress and my other health issues and I have had a lot of success.  I hope everything works out for you.

  • I'm sorry to hear you are having problems, Nova.  It is good that you are charting and so in tune with your body that you know what is going on and are not wasting time just "trying", you know?  I already know that I will likely have a LP issue - my LPs have been pretty short since going off BCPs 7 months ago (longest was 10 days, but mostly they are 9).  But at least I'll know what the problem is if there is one when we start!

  • Lori - I'm so sorry, that sucks. it's amazing how just a couple days apart from each other sends the whole cycle down the tubes.  Are your cycles regular enough that you know you'll O while away?

Karllen - I'm so sorry about the endo and the lupron, I know it seems like forever but 6 months will be up before you know it.

I can't really put my finger on why I'm stalling with the IUI. I think I'm still in denial that I need it.  I keep saying "maybe if it doesn't happen this cycle..." but then the next cycle starts and I can't do it.  Either way, I have to wait for next year, I'm out of days at work.

Jen - I've actually been curious about accupuncture.  It's not something I ever thought I'd be comfortable trying, but I've been warming up to the idea.  Do you go to somebody in the city?

Danielle - thanks hun.  Have you tried B6 at all? that's supposed to help lengthen your LP.

  • I figure I will try a cycle or two without the B6 - sometimes my LP is 10 days, and i know while that is short, it's possible to get pg with a 10 day LP.  If it doesn't work by then I will try B6.  I'm just bad at remembering to take vitamins, my prenatals are enough of a bother to remember!

  • Yes, I go to Jill Plevan.  She has an office in Union Square and in Park Slope.  You can always email her (JillPlevan @ msn dot com) or call her (347-432-0302) and ask if she knows anyone who specializes in fertility.  She is awesome, but expensive.  I have been going to her for about 3 years and she does some special thing with my insurance to keep the costs down, but I know she charges full price for new patients.  Not sure if your insurance covers acupuncture.  I know I have seen ads for at least one person in NJ who specializes in acupuncture and fertility issues.  I?ll keep an eye out for Manhattan/SI folks.

It's pretty much a guarantee, but we might go for a farewell "F*ck for good Luck" anyway right before I leave!  Hee hee!

  • I'm sorry you're having such a hard time Helene! That totally stinks! I know it's easier said than done, but try not to put too much pressure on yourself...they say these things happen when you least expect that them. =/ I'm just trying to be supportive, sorry if I don't sounds so helpful.

I'm not really sure what all this body lingo is about. What exactly is an LP? lol And what is IUI about?

The hubby and I have "technically" started trying to conceive, but I think it was probably too late in my last cycle for anything to happen. I'm about 2 weeks late with my period (that's normal since I got off the pill in May...also, not preggers 'cause I took a test) and I think we will resume trying after I get my period. =/

  • Bonnie - LP is luteal phase.  It's the time between ovulation and when you get your period.  It needs to be at LEAST 10 days for the embryo to be able to implant. 13 or 14 days is ideal.

IUI is intrauterine insemination.  When they put the sperm directly into your ute when you are ovulating, to give them a better chance of reaching the egg.

  • Thanks for the info Danielle! I'm learning a lot here. =) I still need to get that book everyone has been talking about.

My Luteal phase is quite a bit longer than most, I'm assuming. I'm over 2 weeks late, so mine so far is about 30 days since ovulation? oy vey...this doesn't sound like it's gonna be easy. =/

  • It's more likely you didn't ovulate when you think you did. What makes youthink you ovulated 30 days ago? Without temping, it's really impossible to know when you o'd.  O dates can vary drastically from cycle to cycle - they are affected by body changes (Like coming off the pill), stress, diet changes, etc.  LPs are pretty consistent for each person.  Your LP usually only changes a day or so (if that) from month to month.  You probably have not ovulated yet.  Actually, you definitely didn't - if you are not pg, the only other way you would not have gotten your period yet is if you didn't o.

Even if you o on the same day every cycle, it can still change.  And the fact that you just came off the pill makes it even more likely that your cycle is still changing.

So, keep having sex! You still have a chance! And DEFINITELY read Taking Charge of Your Fertility.  You will learn SO MUCH.

  • So excited to see more of you ladies TTC!  Nova, I'm so sorry it's been so rough.  I had success w/acupuncture & highly recommend it.

MrsKocal - I also had (well, still have) short LPs & I think the acupuncture & progesterone cream helped w/that.

    GL to all of you!

  • LOL I have to laugh Danielle...this all sounds so confusing! What happened to just doing "it" and getting pregnant? Why do things have to be so difficult? oy vey...

I'm definitely buying this book! =)

for your sake, I hope this is all you need.  either way you should read the book though, it's amazing how little we actually know about how our own bodies work.
