yucky yuck yuck!
Saturday night there was a hole in the garbage bag under the kitchen sink - DH accused me if using a hole-y bag LOL.... but I saw signs of a mouse! so I set up a mouse trap... Sunday morning the cheese was gone but no mouse, same with Monday morning. Tuesday night I went and bought a different style of mouse trap, I bought a 2-pack for $5.99. Wednesday morning, there was a mouse in the trap! Sucker I thought, poor cute mouse. I threw the trap with the mouse right into the garbage.
I set up another trap just in case. This morning there was another mouse!!!
I was sure naive to think 2 mouse traps would solve our problem :S
A guy at work told me he re-uses his mouse traps. icky.
Re: I was naive to think a 2-pack of mouse traps would be plenty
Ewww, that's the worst when they are in your kitchen! Yuck! My MIL had them under her sink, finally killed them with antifreeze (you put it under the cupboard in a container lid and they drink it!). Bleh.
I would definitely put traps elsewhere in the house. My MIL thought they were just upstairs, and then saw one run across her basement floor!
lol @ the pic!!!
The only problem with putting setting up more traps is I'd have to check the traps every day, and since we have a dog I can't just have them in the corner of a room, it has to be somewhere inaccessible to the dog. Hopefully they will all make their way to the kitchen sink :P
Earlier this year we had a horribly nasty rotten smell in our basement for about 2 weeks, and a major house fly infestation, so I have a feeling that a mouse died in between the walls and then the flies did their job. yuck yuck! I'm so glad we don't use the basement for anything other than storage and laundry at the moment!!
The joys of living in an old house!!
Hey-
I have mice right now as well! Old house + near river + weather getting colder = mice trying to get in - yuck! Thankfully my husband deals with it.
Just so you know- peanut butter (chunky) works better than cheese - they have to lick it and it makes them stay around longer - more chance of getting caught.
Thanks for the PB tip - maybe I could use the cheap traps again with the PB. I'm really pleased with how well the latest traps are working though, I don't even have to add bait.
We also live really close to the river, it's just 3 houses down from us.
My DH feels really guilty about killing the mice, so he pretends he doesn't notice when the trap has a mouse in it (although I am not sure how he misses it when he puts something in the garbage can right next to it), so far it's been my job two days in a row!! This is the kind I used successfully:
