Out of towner looking for Boston present idea...

My mom wants to buy my sister a membership to a kid-friendly place in Boston and I was wondering if you guys had some suggestions.  My mom bought the zoo membership last year, but my sister thought the zoo was a little small and not too interesting, so what is a good place for my mom to buy an annual membership this year?  My sister and her DH only have one child and his is only 1 1/2 years old.

Children's museum?  Local family farm/reserve?  Botanic Gardens?  Art museum?

  • i would suggest the Children's museum. there is always a lot to do and they have great programs for kids.

  • I think the Childrens Museum is going to be your best bet

  • I wonder if he's too young even for the Children's Museum.  I loved that place as a kid, but a lot of it is interactive stuff and I'm wondering if 1.5 is too young to appreciate it.  The Aquarium might be a good option.  When he's a little older the Museum of Science is fantastic.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

Agreed.  My first reaction was the Museum of Science, but then I saw the age.  The Children's Museum or New England Aquarium might be good.
  • I think the aquarium is a great idea.
  • Definitely the Children's Museum - it is great for that age (as well as older kids, obviously). We use our membership all the time.

  • Do they live in the city or outside somewhere?  We have an aquarium pass that we use quite a bit, but the membership we use the most is to Drumilin Farm....which is the Audubon membership.  It is close to us so in the summer we get there probably about once a week where as the Aquarium is a haul.   The membership to the Audubon covers a whole bunch of other places to visit as well.
  • We took my 1.5 year old nephew to the Children's Museum a few weeks ago.  They have a whole room dedicated to kids 3 and under.  I think it's worth looking into for sure.  He had a great time.
  • another vote for the aquarium

  • As a Mom of toddlers I say the Childrens Museum.  It's much more interactive than the Aquarium.
