pregnant in NYC, and no health insurance, option please?
I've been unemployed for almost 6 months now, I use to have health insurance through my old job. After being on COBRA for 2 months DH and I could no longer afford it. DH is self employed so no health care through him.
I am pregnant do I automatically qualify for medicaid, despite my husband income? how does it work. If you can suggest some websites etc.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!
I found this link, that looked pretty informative, but is not NYC-specific.
And welcome to the NYC nesties!

Also check out Family Health Plus, a New YOrk state run program for non-poverty uninsured families.

Also, if your husband is self-employed he probably qualifies for insurance and benefits through Freelancer's Union.
I'm self-employed and during my husband's job transition we have insurance (health & dental) through them. For the two of us its about $450/month - but there are cheaper plans. Definitely check them out! It was a fairly quick process for reasonable insurance.
Congratulations and good luck!!
Do you have an OB? Their staff might be able to advise you on options if medicaid isn't one since you're not the only person who has lost their insurance.
