Random home cleaning question

Our tub gets gross really quickly (there's some sort of mineral in our water making it like that). I feel like I am scrubbing the thing once a week and never get it as clean as we would like it.

Can anyone recommend what product they use to clean their tub? Also, we've used a scrubbing brush as well as a sponge and they never work as well as I would like. What do you use?

Re: Random home cleaning question

  • We use CLR most of the time for our tub, toilet, and sinks because of the mineral build ups.  It's not perfect but it's the best I've found.

  • I use Scrubbing Bubbles spray. I usually spray the tub first so the bubbles have time to work, clean the rest of the bathroom and then scrub the tub with a kitchen sink sponge.  It works pretty good
  • Scrubbing bubbles sucks on whatever it is that is in my tub. I am going to try CLR or Oxyclean or something next. It's ridiculous how often I have to clean it.
  • Try pouring Comet in it and letting it soak for an hour before scrubbing.

  • I've done the comet or ajax thing. It doesnt work either. I mean, it helps, but the amount of scrubbing I need is insane. I think I am going to go buy CLR today or Oxiclean or something.
  • Do the comet thing, but instead of using a sponge, use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

ETA - I also have hard gross water where we live.  Currently I'm trying to figure out something for the dishwasher, I think I'm going to try to run it tonight (empty), using vinegar.

  • Magic erasers! Also try Kaboom
  • My mom has the same problem at her house. What I have found works is using diluted bleach. we just spray it  on and let it sit. Then we rinse it well. The next day we use a cheap alcohol-based mouthwash and spray it onto the walls and scrub after that has sit for a while. This always works for us.

Mouthwash?? That's a new one to me! What does it do?

  • X-14 Mold and mildew remover. Works without scrubbing!!?

This is what we use.  We have hard water with the rotten egg smell to it (YUCK) and this works wonderfully.  The people that lived here before us did not clean the shower and tub at all.  They were nasty when we moved in.  Hubs poured this on the shower stall and faucets and you could watch the grime slide down.  It is all we have used since.   I do suggest an open window when using as the fumes are horrible.

Our dishwasher is awful and I feel like I have to rewash everything before I put it away. But I may have found the trick.

I do a empty wash (HOT water) with one cup vinegar poured right on the bottom...This is just to clean it every once in awhile.

I put regular detergent in the pre-wash cycle or on the bottom of the dishwasher and then use a product called Lime or Lemon Shine (I can't remember exactly...it is located next to the jet dry in stores). Put that in the actual detergent spot...holy crap it made a difference.

I also heard that borax works too, so I might also try that cause it is cheaper.
