Hmmm.. What do you think?

My company lets us have a half day on Christmas Eve. I was thinking it would be nice to just take the whole day off, since I would be only using 4 hours of vacation. I suggested to dh we can go to Disneyland in the morning and then spend Christmas Eve with the family. He thought the idea was great. Spoke to my boss about it and he said it was fine.

Well today, I get an email that work is doing a Christmas lunch on Christmas Eve at a nearby restaurant. I feel like I should go so I get to know people better. I sit in a corner and hardly see anyone the entire day except for a select few people when I go to the copier or something. But then the introvert in me says, no don't go because you will need to talk to people you don't know if you do go. Oh and Disneyland sounds like more fun.

So what would you do?

Edit: forgot to mention if I did take Christmas Eve off it would also make it a 4 day weekend for me which would be nice!

Re: Hmmm.. What do you think?

  • I say Disneyland! you have plenty of time to get to know your coworkers- but how often does a 4 day weekend come around- especially during the stressful holiday season?!
Don't worry about tomorrow. After all, today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. Take each day as it comes...one at a time. Midnight Baking Adventures Blog
  • I can't believe they'd schedule a lunch on Christmas Eve - I don't think you would be the only person taking that day off!

Normally, I would say, stay for the lunch (just to be seen as a "team player").  But since it's Christmas Eve - I think it's perfectly acceptable to take the day off and skip it especially if you couch it as family obligations as opposed to Disneyland.  If it were a different day (say, Dec. 18), that would be different.

  • I think I am going to just take the day off. Smile

I wonder if they are doing the lunch on Christmas Eve in hopes that some people will be taking the day off and less people will go, thus less money spent. We have over 100 people that work in this building.

  • late but I agree with everyone else. Disneyland for sure. A work lunch of xmas eve is crazy. My work requires all depts to have their parties the week before
  • I would go to the work lunch.
  • H's company does the same thing on Christmas Eve but ditto what everyone else said - take the day off.

  • I say take the day off. There will probably be a good number of employees who take the day off too, and you'll have other opportunities to get to know new co-workers and stuff.
