Blind Side

I read the book and loved it.  I am looking forward to the movie coming out but am a little concerned that it's going to have a "feel good" tone to it and won't do justice to the movie.  Anyone else read the book?  Thoughts?

Re: Blind Side

  • It's a "feel good" story, no?

  • It *is* but that's nowhere close to all that it is.  It's a very well-written analysis of Michael Oher's football career.  There's a great deal of in-depth discussion of football as well as Oher's less than ideal background.  I just worry that it could be viewed as a Lifetime movie, ya know.
  • My parents said they had a premiere not far from where they live and had the family attend.  The mom (I haven't read the book yet, but it's on the short list) said they stayed pretty accurate to the real thing save a few minor details.  I'm excited about it!

Hi, I'm new to this board, but wanted to respond. I'm currently reading the book and am thoroughly enjoying it.  I expect that the movie will stick pretty accurately to Oher's triumphant story, but I don't expect the movie will contain the in-depth football analysis that we find in the the book. I just don't understand how that would translate into a feature film, and even if it could translate well, I think including all of that would limit the fiscal success of the movie. Most people don't go to the movies to learn how Lawrence Taylor transformed the game of football, the difference between 4-3 and 3-4 defenses, or how Bill Walsh rose above mediocre quaterbacks by conceiving the West Coast Offense. So, I think the movie will ring true with respect to Oher's story, but I'm fairly certain it will be "dumb downed" football-wise, but that's why it's a feature film and not a documentary.

I'm still excited to see it and above all, I think the movie will, as the book does, underscore the signficant impact one person (or family, or school, as the case may be) can make in the life of a child.

    Sounds good to me.

    I hope this is true!
