Subbing Wheat flour for AP flour?

Would it hurt to sub wheat flour for all-purpose flour in baking recipes?  Any thoughts on this?

Re: Subbing Wheat flour for AP flour?

  • i usually do half ap/half ww.  i don't see why you couldn't sub ww entirely for ap.  i would try it first on a recipe only you and steve will eat to make sure it turns out ok!
  • Duh, I meant to say whole wheat flour in my original post, lol.

Allie, it sounds like what you do is correct.  This is what I found online on the subject:

For each cup of white all-purpose flour, you can often substitute 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour plus 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour.

Substituting equal amounts of whole wheat flour for all-purpose flour doesn't work as well. The resulting product is likely to have less volume and a coarser texture.

    Good to know.  Thanks!
