Does anyone belong to Lifetime Fitness in Deerfield? Urban Active nearby recently cancelled their group fitness classes and that's the main reason I belonged. I can still drive to West Chester or Hyde Park for my class but ... not very convenient. I'm not making the switch yet but wanted to get some information for our decision.
I hear the initiation fee is steep ($300) and so is the monthly fee ($120/month for family). I don't need specifics but is this in the ballpark of what you pay? Is it ridiculously crowded in the evenings? Can you get on a machine or do you have to wait? Are the group classes packed?
We're going to do the free 7 or 10 day trial next week but figured I'd see if anyone out there in NestLand has any feedback.
Thanks!

Re: Lifetime Fitness in Deerfield
I honestly can't remember about the fees at all. I belonged there for about a year, but I stopped going and thought it was silly to keep paying if I wasn't going!
But the classes weren't always crowded, and there's a good variation of classes but also some classes are offered at different times throughout the week. It was pretty crowded in the evening, especially in the beginning of the year. But I can't remember ever having to wait for a machine.
HTH!
I do not belong, but keep in mind that pretty much ALL gyms run some pretty steep specials immediately after the 1st of the year to try and lure in all of the people who make resolutions. It may be worth it for you to wait another month and a half to switch so you can potentially save quite a bit of money.
I belong to Lifetime in Deerfield and I love it! It is very busy there, but the club is huge and I have never had to wait for a cardio machine. The classes are busy, but I wouldnt say that they are packed. There are plenty of different times that they offer some as well.
I joined when the club 1st opened so I got a special promotion on the registration fee. I pay for a single membership (my hubby goes to the gym at his work) and its $53 per month.
I also use a Personal Trainer so if you want any info on that, let me know!
Hope you like it!

I belonged to LifeTime from the date it opened until a couple of months ago. It is expensive... but it's a beautiful facility and worth every penny... I cancelled my membership bc I just wasnt going (couldnt get my butt there...lol) It was a busy club, but it is so large that you dont have to wait for machines... the classes have good attendance, but not overly full.
Its worth checking out.. good luck with your decision!
I love Lifetime! It's always clean, the classes are great and they are open 24 hours.
Join when they are having a deal (around the holidays). Or if you don't want to wait, play hardball with them -- often you can talk gyms down from their initiation fees if you tell them you are going to go w/a different place.
I find the monthly fee to be quite reasonable, but that could be because the gym I belonged to before it was REALLY $$ (Trihealth Fitness Pavilion). I wanted a gym with a pool so my options were limited, but Lifetime is comparable in price to the Y, and it's so much nicer.
That family membership fee sounds steep as well. I pay $50 a month for myself, but I think a family membership was supposed to be about $80. I couldn't get my DH to join, so it's just me and my toddler son (he's $5 a month, and that includes babysitting fees).
