Local Girls: H1N1

I just saw in the paper that the state began its H1N1 vaccinations in the public schools.  They were even administering the shot-version of the vaccine to kids, not just the nasal spray.

That got me a little concerned.  I'm pregnant and still can't find a source for the vaccine.  The clinic near my house still doesn't have it, even though they are one of the administration sites.  I'm also on a waitlist through UH, arranged via my OB, which is supposed to get me the shot "when it's available."  But now I see it in the schools and I'm just wondering when high priority groups OUTSIDE the DOE might get our chance.

And it doesn't help that the newspaper also warned that, with our state's terrible tracking of the vaccines thus far received, our chances of getting more might be compromised.

Have any of you gotten yours and/or do you have any suggestions for how I might get mine?  I'm trying to be proactive, but things just seem so poorly organized.  Sad

  • Sorry to hear that you want it and can't get it. Have you tried the dept of health? I know it is weird, but sometimes stores have it before medical providers. Makes no sense. Try Walgreens, Safeway, Costco and anywhere else you can think of.

It is still very sparse where I live. They also ran out of seasonal flu vaccine. When we couldn't find the seasonal one through my daughter's pediatricians' office, we got online. We ended up getting it at Safeway.

The person was caught... a contract worker.

Maybe you could get a contract job in the school Devil

Ah, that probably wouldn't work, either.  I don't know how it works there, but the DOH is coming in to my school to give it to all students, but they will not give it to the staff. Huh?

  • I'm sorry, but I have no advice for you :( I don't know anyone who has gotten the H1N1 vaccine in Hawaii. I saw on the news the other day that even the school's have waiting lists for students to be vaccinated.

Hopefully UH will get their vaccinations in so you can go through them.

& are you expecting your "big" ultrasound soon or will you be team green?

I just checked the DOH's website re: distribution sites and everywhere on Oahu says "nasal spray only."  That's IF the stores even have them in stock, since many sites haven't even received theirs yet.  So it is frustrating when I see them delivering thousands and thousands of doses in schools, including the sparse injectables that pregnant women could also benefit from, while providing very little info or opportunities for the other "high priorities."  I feel like telling the DOH to stop running all these PSAs about how important it is to get the vaccine if they can't even give us reasonable opportunity to get the darn thing.  Very stressful.

LORI - We had our ultrasound already and we're team green!   I keep having dreams about the baby... sometimes girl, but most times boy.  :)

  • I'm no help at all.  I also fall in a "high priority" group since I have a little one under 6 months. But both my hubby and I are having no luck finding anyplace that gives them out. My husband also has a serious heart condition so he needs it even more. I'm having to wait until they give it out at the school. But it's pretty bad here, if students turned their consent form a day late they were not included in the count and have to go on the wait list. So i sit here and wait while i work with all the side kiddies at school. I wash my hands like crazy and don't let anyone touch Jaylee unless they wash their hands themselves.
  • i haven't heard of anything.  sorry lola :(  good healthy vibes for you and baby green :)

i did see on the news that the state did have it and they had it hidden in some underground warehouse????

my dh is super sick right now...he was asleep when i left and i sprayed lysol at him...lol.  he's quarantined in our spare room right now.
