This year will be the first time ever I'll be in a town with more than just a Wal-Mart on Black Friday! (This could be the one and only upside to Thanksgiving with the inlaws.) I'm so excited! Any tips from Black Friday pros out there?
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

I survived the RoLex wedding and all I got was this lousy husband.

I hate BF so much.
Get your elbows ready for some thrust action. Do not be afraid to take down children and toddlers.

THIS.
Bring brass knuckles. And Chuck Norris if possible. He'll roundhouse kick people out of the way.
And I was dead serious about the Xanax.

I prefer not to take drugs. Would half a bottle of wine work? And I'll give Chuck a call and see if he'll be in West Texas to help me out.

I mean, he is a Texas Ranger.
And yes, wine will work. Just make sure to chug.

My thoughts exactly.
Seriously, though, I've already seen some great deals to be had at Best Buy and Bath and Body Works (the former for me and DH, the latter for gifts). I will be braving the pyschos next Friday. I might have to bring an extra suitcase to fly it all back, though...

I'm going to warn you - Best Buy is the worst on BF. My skin just started itching thinking about it. Imagine kids hopped up on sugar in Toys R Us, but instead, at Best Buy, they are men. Cracked out on electronics.
Oy. Vey.

I'm obviously in the minority here but I LOVE Black Friday. One of the most fun shopping days of the year. I'm super disappointed that I'm not going to be home to go with my sis and mom. I'm dragging DH out with me for a few hours before we go tailgate for the football game.
While there are tons of deals to be had, I dont think its as much of a deal anymore as it used to be since so many stores participate in pre-BF deals and cyber monday, but its still fun.
My advice: make a plan, which stores in which order and what you are looking for at each one. If its a super popular item, you may have to wait in line. Be prepared to miss out on early bird specials if you aren't willing to. Also, at a lot of places, it will be a huge timesaver to have one person wait in line while the other finds what you are looking for as some of the checkout lines are completely ridiculous.
IMO, Best Buy is the absolute worst store on BF, I try to avoid it unless there is something I must have because it just seems like they make it more of a pain every year. If I do go, I generally wait until around 9 am or so at the earliest unless I have to have something on the Early Bird Special.

Ohh, okay. I was thinking you spent your thanksgivings in Austin. To which I was like, has every amazing thing I've ever heard about atx been a lie?!! My life was about to change forever.
I wish! I've never gotten to be in Austin for Thanskgiving day. But now that I recall, I did spend 1 Black Friday in Austin, but I was back just in time to go to the A&M game, and then I had to work (at the mall, ironically, but was there until closing so no shopping for me). I'd completely forgotten about that.
I'm hoping that next year, DH and I will have tickets to the at-home A&M game, which will give us a good excuse to have Thanksgiving at our place instead of my parents' house, and then my mom and I can shop til we drop Friday morning.

I, like hawkilady, LOVE Black Friday. In fact, my mom and I call it the "real" holiday.
You have to take it for what it is: 1,000,000 absolutely insane maniacs who are trying to kill one another for the best bargain. Love it for that. Respect it for that.
I would never ever ever ever go out on Black Friday for "must have" items or to try to get all my shopping done. I go to be a part of the insanity and the spectacle. If I pick up a few good items, so be it. If I don't, we still go out to breakfast at our favorite local restaurant and swap "war stories" about the morning. It's awesome.
My favorite stores where I've actually had shopping success: Kohl's, Michaels, Target.
I also love Black Friday. So. much. fun. Maybe it's because it's LA and everyone's too cool for school, but the worst part is just waiting in the lines. I've never seen anyone get hurt and Best Buy is just fine.
My advice: print out the shopping lists a few days ahead. Read through them and highlight what you want, then prioritize stores according to this. We usually go to Target or Best Buy first to get the essential electronics (because they may run out of those), then meander over to a Kohl's for deals on clothes/home goods.
Also check online the night before or when you get up. Some deals are posted online, so you can lock them in and not have to worry about it.
And lines are inevitable so keep a positive attitude. Then go home and sleep and eat your leftovers and play with your new toys!
