Check in

Hi Ladies!  Time for a check in!

We're good.  The power went out around 12 on monday and we got it back today at noon.  The area around me wasn't bad at all.  We were safe and just got a little water in our kitchen from the back door but no damage.  The only damage was to my nerves because I was FREAKING OUT!

Re: Check in

  • I'm back! We had a whole lot of branches and limbs down in the yard, but other than that everything is OK. We are very fortunate to have power. Our end of the street is the only section in the whole neighborhood to have power. everyone else is still running generators or have their windows open. I feel so badly for them! Glad to hear you are OK!

  • I'm still in Houston until Sunday. I am doing my work from my parents house and figured since I don't get home much, I might as well extend my stay and spend more time with my family. DH's restaurant opens up Sat or Sun, or they are trying to, so he hasn't been asked to return til Friday .... so he's still here with me. :-)

  • We made it back today.  We have roof damage, fence down, gutters gone, the metal roof on our shed is peeled back, the gate in front of our house is holding on for dear life and my toperaries (sp) are laying across the lawn.  But I can honestly say I am very thankful because this is only minor damage.  We never lost electricity but we cleaned out the freezers before we left and took the food with us.  There was a girl who worked at the hotel we were staying at that was a single mom and we gave her all the food and it was enough to feed 4 families.

  • We got back last night, and I'm at work. Yeah, because right now what NoLa needs are graphic designers. Sure.?

We had no real damage except branches down and our garden looks like hell. The rivers are scary high and we had a message on our answering machine telling us it was a mandatory evacuation and to get out when we got home. That was surreal.

Other than one to many boring days in Starkville, MS. We're fine. I'm leaving early today to actually clean up my yard, plug everything back in and go grocery shopping. We cleared out the fridge/freezer before we left but went to an apt. full of hungry college students. We didn't have much left to bring back!

  • My mom is still in Hattiesburg, MS bc she doesn't have any power back home in Norco.  There are only 2 streets with electricity and they are the ones on both sides of hers.  So hopefully it will come on soon although they aren't predicting St Charles parish to be fully restored until the 15th.  Ughh.... They know she lost a huge tree in her yard but she still doesn't know if there is damage to the house bc they blocked her street off.  Probably due to down lines from the tree falling into the street.  So my mom waits anxiously until they tell her she has electricity.  I just hope and pray that her house is ok, she lives by herself with me and my brother here in Texas. :(
  • We got back yesterday, no electricity, but it came on late last night. Everything in our freezer was STILL frozen...thank God. During Katrina the thursday before it hit, we had stocked it $400 worth.  This time we didn't stock it but it didn't spoil. So happy!

Here's hoping we dodge Ike.  I hate evacuating almost

Here's hoping we dodge Ike.  I hate evacuating almost as much as I hate keeping our lives on hold while waiting to see what happens. UGH.

  • We got back yestrday, no damage here.  Just a lot of cleaning up yard work, very thankfull for that.  Evacuating with a teething baby...was miserable! We lost power up in Natchez for over 24 hrs...lets hope Ike stays away!

  • We arrived back home on Wednesday.  No real damage just some facia blown off the sides of the house.  We didn't even lose power here, our clocks were not even blinking!!  The big pain was trying to conserve water in Jefferson Parish when I had a pile of laundry and searching for milk for 4 hours.  I went to Sams again today and they still aren't operating at 100% so that is slightly annoying, but all in all, because it could have been A LOT worse I am so grateful.

    Back to work tomorrow!
