Half way through with the pregnancy

Today I am 20 weeks pregnant. I feel like I just found out, and school is going by so quickly. Once we get back from Thanksgiving break, we have three weeks, and we're off two weeks for Christmas. It is going to fly by, and I have so much stuff to prepare for my long-term sub. I feel like I am quickly running out of time.

So, when do you start to register for things?

Think we should really get moving on the nursery? We have it painted, but nothing beyond that, no furniture, and no bedding. Thought?

Re: Half way through with the pregnancy

  • we registered around 26 or 27 weeks.  My mom actually came with me and I'm glad because she was very helpful giving advice on what you need, versus what you want because it's cute.

I'm trying to remember when we put the nursery together....we got the crib at Easter so....I guess that I would have been about five months?  I bought the bedding like the second I found out I was pregnant because I just couldn't wait!  We didn't get a changing table, just used a dresser that we repainted.

This is the crib we got for Elise and we love it, have no complaints.

  • Thanks, Christen! I really like that crib, and I just sent the link to David to see what he thinks.

There is no Babies R Us around the dell, the nearest is in Metairie. Since we will be in BR for Thanksgiving, I may go register next week, but I am not sure. It may not be until I am out on Christmas break.

I have people already asking me where I am registered, and I have nothing to tell them. Oops, thought I had more time. They can just wait haha.

  • I recommend going to BRU during the week to register, if at all possible.  It is horrible on weekends!!

  • Congrats!  Isn't it insane to be halfway done?!

We registered 2 weeks ago.  Ditto, Christen.  Try to go during the week.  It was so overwhelming.  Wear comfy shoes.  And bring Tylenol.  Buy Baby Bargains.  Sleep with it.

I think you're fine with the nursery.  You still have some time.  And it's not like you can't bring your kid home if the nursery isn't decorated perfectly.  I'd focus on the crib for now.  You already picked out your bedding so just shop around for a good price.  Check out craigslist for dressers/bookcases, etc.

    You'll be ok!

this, exactly!  You'll probably have the baby in your room for a while anyway.

  • Just wanted to add you can start your registry online...then go to the store whenever you want, they will look up your info and give you a scanner to add more stuff in store.

I did almost all of mine online, then made a trip to the store and added random things I saw that I liked. (you can also delete things online)

As far as figuring out what to register for, I recommend Baby Bargains, and asking other moms what they recommend. I also read a lot of the reviews on BRU.com.

Good luck! Congrats on being halfway done!

  • I wanted to recommend my crib too. Since we had to buy two, we didn't want to spend a ton. This crib got really good reviews in Baby Bargains...and I have no complaints at all. It is very sturdy and I love the look of it. A couple other people I know also have it and love it.

We bought ours at walmart.com -it was free shipping I think. They also sell them at Target and BRU. I am pretty sure it comes in white too. When we bought it, they were $150 I believe....

Ditto what Christen said about using a dresser as changing table. We have this one:

I LOVE it. It is super sturdy and is the perfect height (I'm 5'8").

  • I also wanted to ditto christen in that bringing someone with you who is already a mom is probably wise.  I did not do this and really wish I had.

  • I have absolutely no words of wisdom or advice, but I just wanted to say congrats!
  • Ditto Jamie on having no advice on registering or anything like that but congrats on making the halfway point!
  • Thanks to everyone's advice! I have bookmarked the cribs and the dresser. We are actually borrowing a nice bassinet from a colleague of mine, so the baby will sleep in the basinet for a little while before going in the crib. I feel for my own sanity though, I will just need to get the nursery done before he/she arrives, if it's not done there will be people at my house finishing it while I am in the hospital giving birth. That's just me, I just always need things done and organized.

MT, that's exactly why people are asking where we're registered, because they want to get us stuff for Christmas. I guess I should get on that.
