Dog groomer poll

I'm taking one of my ultra furry dogs (she's a husky) to the groomer tomorrow.  I started wondering a few things and I figured I would post a poll on here.  Seems like there are alot of pet parents on this board.

How often does your fur baby go to the groomer?

Does your fur baby love or hate the groomer?

Do you tip?  if so, how much?

Do you give an extra tip around holiday time?

Re: Dog groomer poll

  • How often does your fur baby go to the groomer? Honestly, when he stinks (which isn't uncommon for him)... I'd say he's been about 6 times in the past year- he just gets bathed/ nails trimmed.

Does your fur baby love or hate the groomer? Hate. Hate. Hate.

Do you tip?  if so, how much? Not consistently- $2-3 if I do

Do you give an extra tip around holiday time? No

  • How often does your fur baby go to the groomer?  Twice a year.  Once before winter and once after winter.  We groomer at home other wise.  Our other dog is has short fur so we groom him at home.

Does your fur baby love or hate the groomer?  She loves the groomer but hates actually getting groomed.  She is exhausted once she gets home.

Do you tip?  if so, how much?  I usually give about 15 -20% depending on how furry she is.

Do you give an extra tip around holiday time?  I didn't last year since we were tight financially (we got married last year).  But I did the year before and I'm thinking about giving something this year, but maybe not money.  I'm thinking I'll bake her something.

  •  How often does your fur baby go to the groomer? We try for once a month. Does your fur baby love or hate the groomer? He doesn't seem to mind. We got there early to pick him up and they were finishing him up. he was just standing there wagging his tail it was so cute. Do you tip?  if so, how much? $5-10 Do you give an extra tip around holiday time? If we used the same person consistently I would but we don't so no.
  • We bathe our own dogs, as often as we deem necessary. Usually every few months.

probably TMI but... we do that too but it's almost impossible to cut Simon's nails ourselves and he usually pees on himself when he gets them cut so I just have him bathed at the same time.

He rolls in stinky stuff a lot so he gets thrown in the tub quite a bit.

  • How often does your fur baby go to the groomer? A few times a year- when his nails and stank get out of control

Does your fur baby love or hate the groomer? I can't really tell. I think he hates it based on how much he hates it when I try to do the stuff myself (he literally screams for me not to cut his nails) and the fact that he sh*ts on the goomer's floor when I drop him off. But when I pick him up, he's shaking all over and full of energy- so I can't tell if that's fear or excitement. He does love all the attention he gets from looking and smelling so good after!

Do you tip?  if so, how much? No...I didn't know I was supposed to...oops!

Do you give an extra tip around holiday time? I might now!

  • I should say we do bathe him on our own occasionally but we don't attempt to cut his nails. His hair also gets unruly and in his face so he needs to be trimmed.

We have one of those nail filer things. Every now and then we'll take them to the vet to get them cut though.

He is sooooo much better without me present to do his nails. No matter what. The vet/ groomer usually doesn't have problems with him but every now and again he can be horrible. Even if we had a drummel, he doesn't let us touch his paws!

  • My parents bought one of those pedi paws things yesterday, it was on sale for $10 at Benny's. We'll see how it goes, their dog just sits there when you need to do something like that so it may work good for them. Murray sits for awhile but when he's done he's done.

Oh believe me, it's still a fight to the death to get them to let us do it hahaha. But it's cheaper Stick out tongue

DH tried to "save money" last year (the day after Thanksgiving) and trim Simon's nails- he had the day off. He nicked the quick and Simon started bleeding and wouldnt stop. There was blood all over the house, DH was a wreck and Simon bled for hours (til the next day actually). He is so nervous that it couldn't cauterize. That was the last time we did it. He has such strong legs that it's hard to near impossible to hold him down. I had to bandage his paw up and drug him to sleep because he was shaking so much... between that and his peeing all over the place, it's worth the $12 for us to take him somewhere!!

  • I groom Brady myself, every two weeks he gets a nail trim, haircut, and a bath. He behaves himself for the most part, except when he tries to eat his hair..
  • Ya we had a bleed once too - we had to sit with Gracie's paw in flour for a couple hours. She is insane, DH has to literally lay on top of her to use the drummel on her.

  • One of my dogs actually starts to bite his nails if they get too long, so he loves it when we clip them.  The other doesn't like it but she tolerates it.  They both run over to where we keep the treats when they are done. So cute.

  • How often does your fur baby go to the groomer?  Not often enough... we bring them when their starting to smell... Loki is way beyond that point right now...

Does your fur baby love or hate the groomer?  Freya doesn't mind... Loki HATES it

Do you tip?  if so, how much?  We don't actually... for washing we bring them to the self-serve dog wash, so we end up doing it ourselves.  I only really bring Freya to the groomer to get her nails done as she hates us touching her feet... I guess I should start tipping them since they're doing me the favor, huh?

Do you give an extra tip around holiday time?  N/A
