So money is tight this year, with just having a baby and being furloughed I don't have much to spend on the hubby. WE usually get big gifts for each other (new computers, an iphone..) but this year will be different. He says he doesn't want anything, I already gave him the best present of all with the baby. But still. So just wondering what you ladies were thinking of buying your man for Christmas..
Re: Christmas gift for DH
Actually, MH and I are already enjoying our Christmas presents. We got each other the new Motorola Droid phones. This is the most we're spending this year because both our birthdays are around Christmas so when we got married, we agreed that we'd do more expensive gifts for our birthdays and then do stocking stuffers for Christmas. So last year, I got him the entire Stargate DVD set for his birthday and a bluetooth headset & an ice cream maker ball (he kept on oogling it at REI) for Christmas. This year, I'm getting him the Amazon Kindle for his birthday and then our stocking stuffers will have a $5 limit on it b/c of the phones we already got...
Oh, I also get Godiva every year for us to enjoy together, so something like that might be something budget-friendlier if you guys both like chocolates...
We usually splurge on each other at Christmas (I get him $$$ electronics, he gets me $$$ jewelry), but this year we've agreed to scale back because of so many new/upcoming expenses (house, babies, etc.).
I was thinking of getting him Guitar Hero for his XBox - other than that, I have no ideas!
We've bought quite a few new things "for the baby" (really I think daddy just wanted a video camera
). So we're trying to stick to stocking suffers and one present.
We arranged to have Russ' parents get us snowshoes so I think we're going to get each other new winter hiking shoes.
Married Bio
We usually don't spend much at christmas. We do something big for our anniversary, and spend about $100 on birthdays, but at chrismas we spend money on others. We always exchange christmas ornaments.
Haha! DH *thinks* he's an awesome gift giver (I'd say he's 50-50) and wants to surprise me every time, but I'd be more than happy to choose my own gift...
We're going to try to keep our gifts less than $100 b/c we're trying to save $ but we haven't set a budget yet. I'd be happy with no gift at all but he'd never go for that... He wants an MEC (Canada's version of REI, I guess?) down-filled vest so I might get that for him.
MH and I don't exchange gifts at Christmastime. We give each other the gift of quality time instead. This started back when we were dating and still singing for our supper...the holidays are always packed with gigs. So we'd getaway for a night or two in a B&B midweek before Christmas. We did that for YEARS and it's always been awesome to build connections and memories rather than amass more stuff.
Last year was the first year we didn't do it...we had just moved out to OK and money was tight. This year, we don't have the time (I am saving all of my leave for after the baby comes) and don't want to spend the money.
Last year, I bought stocking stuffers and included "love coupons" that I made on the computer. They were a little smaller than a business card and had things like "Good for one movie night...you choose" or "Breakfast in Bed" or a "Picnic in the Park", etc. Oddly enough I think he's lost them because I haven't seen them since! But at the time, he loved them! I filled his stocking with his favorite candies, a new leather wallet, etc.
This year, I have gotten him replacement digs for his favorite kick around clothes: a nautica sweatsuit and fleece lined crocs. He literally wears this outfit 4-5 times a week and it's starting to get worn out. So I've bought him a new nautica set and crocs and will wrap them up for him. I am trying to find him a COACH t-shirt since he's going to be my birthing coach and keeps joking that he's going to show up in high knee socks, short shorts, a ringer T and wrist bands with whistle! Like Coach Hines on Mad TV! Too funny!
