Flame if you must

Dh and I are decorating for Chritmas tonight. We were going to wait until the day after Thanksgiving, but we want to get the decorations up before Thanksgiving so we can get our Christmas cards ordered and ready to send.

So do you decorarte? Do you go above and beyond or just a little here and there? Do you put up outside decorations? When are you decorating?

Re: Flame if you must

  • Yes, I decorate. My Christmas tree is still up from last year.  Therefore, I beat you and I win! Big Smile
  • Yes we decorate, but not until after turkey day.  We do a little inside, and a little outside, not much (because it's the IL's house).  I'm sure once we have our own place we will be Christmas freaks.

  • Well, I already said we are decorating tonight. I do not think we go all out at all. Mainly this is because we just got out house and don't have tons of decorations yet.

Currently, we put up our tree and decorate it with lights and bulbs. Then we string lights on our railing and on the fireplace. Also, we started a married Christmas tradition last year. Each Christmas we are buying a piece to a city. We are not doing a specific set, just whatever buliding we see while we're out during the holidays and must have. And we can only get 1 each year no matter what!

We also have 4 light up Snoopy Christmas decorations to put in our windows and one of those swirl light trees to go outside.

We don't have holiday dishes but we do have holiday hand towels we put in the kitchen during Decemeber.

That's it for now, but each year we are going to add.

  • We LOVE to decorate. We're adding a little bit each year to our collection, since last year was our first together in our own place. We're starting to put everything up Sunday after we go pick out our tree at the farm! Then we'll probably pick our tree up next weekend or the weekend after. We put up a few lights outside (we live in an apartment) but I don't think we can get too crazy, M still has to check with the office to see what we're limited to. Happy to hear I'm not the only one with decorations up this weekend! I love love love Christmastime!

  • I love having the house decorated for the holidays.  I haven't gone overboard though because I just can't afford to keep buying decorations (plus, we have limited space to store things).  We wait to put things up until after Thanksgiving (usually the first weekend in Dec.), but I also like to leave things up until mid-to-late Jan. because I lump it in with the season/winter.  We haven't decorated outside because we're in a condo.

  • I should probably add that I own 5 artificial trees and enough ornaments and lights to decorate them all differently.  I am obsessed with Christmas.  I have an entire 14 x 6 foot storage area full to the top with Christmas decorations.

I am also obsessed and picky about my wrapping.  I have 12 different containers full of wrap.  No two gifts can be wrapped the same and they all get a special fancy hand made bow.  I'm a tard I know.

    1. You're not a tard!

    2. I LOVE this.  I always wrap each gift differently and love adding special extras/bows to make the wrapping pretty.

  • I usually don't start decorating until the saturday after Tgiving, but I MUST have a real tree, so that has to wait a couple weeks so it's not dead by christmas. I'd love to decorate more when we have a house, there just isn't enough room or storage space in the apt to go all out.

I admire you both! All of our presents get wrapped in the same paper, sometimes I'll use 2 different papers but that's about it! I'm a wrapping FAIL!

  • It seriously irks me when people do christmas before they "give thanks" at thanksgiving...but if it is for getting christmas picture cards ordered - i see why you'd do it early.  lots of people don't think of Christmas in a religious sense anyways...just a huge hallmark holiday.

there's already people here with outside lights on...that's a little wacky!  i can see putting them up when it isn't icy and snowing - but don't turn em on untill december please - you're just wasting electricity.

we don't do lights or big decor here b/c for the past 4 years we've been in Chicago for Christmas week - so there's no reason to decorate here.  We decorate at my mom's when we get there.

I love this!! I usually buy 4 or 5 rolls of Christmas paper and wrap everything in them. So some are the same =(. And I fail at bow making, so that's out. But I do put curling ribbon around the gifts to give is some pizzaz (spelling?)

I know the wrapping paper gets thrown out, but I love receiving a well wrapped gift. I think it shows the thought the person had for you.

What do you mean by "do" Christmas? As in decorate?
  • My mom killed christmas for me....well all holidays really.

I am sure once we have kids we will get waaaay into it! Just being married has kinda loosened me up to holidays and getting in the spirit!

We ARE decorating the fireplace tonight for our chirstmas card photos tomorrow...that will be my extent of decorating.

Yup..."do" = decorate and turn outside christmas lights on, stores with holiday displays even before Halloween, giant blow up santas on lawns before december even starts...things like that
