Flying to the States with LO

Has anyone ever flown sans husband to the States with their LO that can answer this for me? MH is signing a letter allowing him to fly with me, but we didn't get it notarized (no time). Is this going to be a big deal?

Re: Flying to the States with LO

  • Nope!  My LO and I just flew to the US last week and all DH did was print out where we were from, where we were going, the dates of travel, contact information, and then signed and dated it.  I brought two copies with me just in case but I wasn't asked once to present it.

  • Cool, that's the one we are using as well. I was just worried about the witness part. Did you just skip that part?

ETA: How was it flying with a 4mo? Any tips?

  • Ya we didn't bother with the witness part... and honestly no one even asked me for the form.

Flying with DD was beyond good.  I had these horrible mental images of scream-crying and getting the stink-eye from passengers but she was amazing!  Aside from needing to change her on every flight (apparently she poops on take-off), she slept for the most part.

So I would just bring more diapers than you think you'll need, several changes of clothes, ziploc bags for any potential blow-outs, and I also recommend a blanket because I actually ended up changing DD on the bathroom floor on one flight (Most small/commuter planes don't have change tables in the bathrooms).

The other tips that were given to me before I traveled were to bring a backpack instead of a diaper bag so you aren't juggling the baby, tickets, and bag.  Bring a few new toys because they will probably hold your LOs attention longer than something they have been before.  Ask for an aisle seat in case your need to walk around... I went up to the ticket counter before each flight and asked if the flight was full.  If it wasn't, I was given an entire row to myself which was great for when I needed to nurse on take-off and landing!

So I'll stop rambling... sorry it's so long!

  • Those are some great tips!
  • In the words of the great Led Zepplin... Ramble on!

Those are great tips, and I'll take them all!
