  I have gone every year - literally my whole life . Here are my tips - stick to the department stores - the deals may not be as good but the crowds are way better.Stay away from toy stores .  My mom and I go to Tri-County mall every year. We don't necessarily go for deals, we just go to get in the Christmas season.

  There are a lot of stores that are having "black friday" sales this weekend, very good deals a week before the crowds go insane so it's a win-win.  Also there are a few places who have black friday deals on thanksgiving day early in the morning.  We went to Meijer last year on thanksgiving day and got really good deals on the toys and didn't really have to fight anyone.  

  I think this year we're going to attempt Target...their ad has some really good deals.  Look up bfads.net for the posted black friday ads.

  I go with my mom every year, but I don't do the EarlyBird stuff. Although as DD gets older, I might have to to get some toy deals.
  
  The best deals are in the morning. I think some stores open at 4am. If there were something I really wanted / needed I might get up that early, but so far there hasn't been.
  
  My mom usually gets up early to do the EarlyBird, then I meet her in the late morning. You still get some good deals, but the crowds aren't as bad, and you get to sleep in.

  My dh and I go every year. We used to go in DAyton which had plenty of deals. We never are really looking for things specifically, however, we usually find some good deals at Macys and the other large department stores. I know we usually do target later in the day as the crowd slows down. I dread actually having to look for something specific when we have children. We like looking at all of the crazy people run around to find a specific item.

  Last year was the first year I went out. I worked in retail for many years so I never was able to go. This year a friend and I are thinking about going to the outlets at midnight. I think it fun, but crowds don't bother me.

  My sister and I used to go every year. I loved going, and hope to go again in the next few years. Sometimes the deals may have been the same online, but it was great bonding time for us.

  We always went to Meijer since they price match (HUGE TIME SAVER). We also would pick a few other stores that might have "speciality" items (Kohls, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc.) and stop by those as well.
