Mexico Recs

Hi Ladies,

I am trying to plan a cheap vaca for the week after new years to mexico. ?I think we are going to fly into Cancun. ?However, I do not want to stay in the hotel district. Any recs for places off the beaten track? We are not big drinkers, so all-inclusive and nightlife are not important to us. We do want a nice beach, good food and a low key?environment.?

TIA!

Re: Mexico Recs

  • A beach vacation sounds so nice right now!

Earlier this year we went to the Westin Resort and Spa for our 1st anniversary. Our anniversary is in the middle of college spring break so we were worried we were crazy to go to Cancun, but the Westin was perfect. It's at the very beginning of the "7" so it feels very remote - we never saw a single spring-breaker. They still have a beautiful, huge beach (many other resorts we saw had lost theirs), it's easy to get chairs out on the beach, the pool is really nice, you can get great food delivered to you as you lay out, it was wonderful!

You could also upgrade to their Royal Beach Club which has complimentary breakfast and apps/drinks in the evening. It was really nice to just grab a glass of wine and sit out by their pool at night.

Ah, I want to go back!

  • When we went last year we stayed at the Ambiance Villas. The beach was the best. The food was only meh, but we enjoyed eating out at different spots every night. It's not in the middle of all the action but it's walking distance. Very low key and very intimate. Not very frilly hotel, but clean and nice and cozy.

Have fun wherever you decide to stay!! I can't wait to revisit Cancun.

  • Hi Tia,

I just got back from my wedding in Mexico.  We were down in the Riviera Maya and stayed at the Barcelo Maya Palace which was awesome.  It is all inclusive and we aren't big drinkers, either.  The food was awesome and the water was goregous (the beach was a bit rocky).  The rooms are spacious and staff very nice.

There is also the Excellence Playa Mujeres which I hear is also very pretty (we looked at it for the honeymoon), but ended up going with the Iberostar Grand Paraiso.  There is also Dreams and Secrets Maroma which a lot of people also like....

    Hope this helped, Kat
