Recs for Caribbean cruises?

DH and I are looking to go on a Caribbean cruise over MLK day in January (and my bday!).  I think I remember seeing a couple of you ladies going on cruises - can you recommend either your cruise line or your itinerary?  We're leaning towards eastern and southern Caribbean right now.  I cruised once on Celebrity when I was 12, and it was a good time, but we'd really like a cruise line that's geared towards young couples, if such a thing exists!

TIA

  • We went with Royal Caribbean and LOVED it, however you may enjoy Carnival more if you want one geared towards young couples.

  • I've never been on a cruise, but you should post this on the travel board....I frequent there and I know there are lots of girls over there who would have great advice!

  • I second Abbie's recommendation of RC.  I've never cruised with another line but was very pleased with RC!  Enjoy your trip!

  • Hey Justine!  I've only been on RC as well.  I hope you have a great trip!

Also, check the recommendations on sites like tripadvisor.com or fodors.com.

  • Thanks so much!  We're going to take your RC recommendation.  I also posted this on the Travel board, but can you provide any input on the two itineraries that we are considering?  They are essentially the same with the following differences:

    - Adventure of the Seas ship, travel to Barbados and St. Croix, Sun - Sun out of San Juan

    - Serenade of the Seas ship, travel to Tortola and Grenada, Sat - Sat out of San Juan

Any thoughts on ships, islands and travel out of San Juan on Sat vs. Sun would be much appreciated!

  • I have flown through San Juan before and it's a pretty easy airport.

Barbados is a beautiful island and has very different parts of the island that are fun to see.  I also have liked St. Martin/St. Maarten and Grand Cayman.  I loved Anguilla and most of what makes it so quiet is that no cruise ships can go there.  I would not return to Jamaica and was not a huge fan of where I have been in Mexico.

My brother also really loved St. John and I have heard great things of the other US and British Virgin Islands.

    Good luck deciding!
