fave burger in NYC?

okay, since we always get so many people on here asking for places to eat, stay, see, etc in the city, I've decided to take on the task of making an NYC Bio.  So, I'll be asking you for a new favorite every day (at least I'll try for every day) and accumulating it all in one place.

I've decided to start with burgers... beef, veggie, turkey, salmon, whatever. Sit-down or take-out, dive or fancy, as long as it's within the 5 boroughs. (just try to give me a little info so I can include what kind of place it is on the bio)

Where's your fave burger?

Re: fave burger in NYC?

  • okay mine:  The Red Cat I think the sirloin burger is only on their lunch menu, but it was soooo good. Every other burger I have seems to pale in comparison.

  • helene - you're awesome for taking on the nyc bio. and i haven't been to the red cat and now must put it at the top of my list!

i think rare has one the best burgers in nyc and their truffle fries are to die for. i also like the burger at hundred acres.

  • chelsea grill is also great and HUGE (like 10oz), i think DH has only finished his once.

  • Dumont
    http://www.dumontrestaurant.com
    Williamsburg

It's more upscale than a typical burger joint (although Dumont Burger fits that need) but man-oh-man is the burger worth it. A decadent meal of oysters on the half shell followed by a burger is a treat. Follow it with a Sazarac and it's a night not to be forgotten.

  • forgot to tell you about them - chelsea grill & hundred acres both have plenty of other entree options, salads, pastas, etc... hundred acres is a bit more upscale, local, farm fresh ingredients.

rare is primarily burgers and beef (ie. not the best place to bring a vegetairian)

  • Dive Bar on 96th and Amsterdam! Not as divey as the name suggests, but definitely more of a bar atmosphere - though there are plenty of tables and it's waitress service. The burgers are amazing and the fries are right up there too. And to add on to how good it already is, two delicious burgers with fries and a pitcher of beer will come in around $30 - and you will not be hungry (or thirsty) when you leave!

  • Oh.....great idea!!

Sheep Station in Park Slope (I know, I know, bragging about my neighborhood again, but...) has an amazing burger that is available as a veggie burger or regular beef.

It's called the Shearer's Burger and its topped with beets, pineapple, fried egg, lettuce, tomato and onion. I know it sounds crazy...but its sooo good. well, as long as you can get your mouth around it! lol

Sheep Station is a cool Australian pub style restaurant.

  • It's nothing fancy, but I like Paul's Burgers in the East Village. They have lots of selection on both beef and turkey burgers.

DH and I also love an occasional burger from Five Guys.  I know it's a chain, but it is still good food. Nothing crazy, just basic burger and fries.

  • Fo shame! I don't think I have eaten a burger worthy of being on this list so I am gonna take down notes this round!

  • I second Shake shack!
  • I love 5 Napkin Burger (fivenapkinburger.com).  It's in 45th and 9th.  Also, their onion rings are the bomb!

  • I might also vote for 5 Napkin Burger but I need to try some of those other spots as well.

  • JG Melon on 74th and 3rd.  awesome burger and waffle fries!
  • Shake shack addict here
  • I don't even know the name of it but it's in the lobby of Le Parker Meridian hotel. It is a dive and they take cash only. But it's a hidden jem! The walls are covered completely with famous people who have eaten there. I also love Shake Shack.

     =Burger Joint.

I also love Dumont in Brooklyn.  However, the crowd is sometimes a bit pretentious.

  • PS) You are awesome to take this on.  I tried doing the same thing about two years ago and didn't get very far.

Here is a link to the nest blog I tried to start:

You might be able to use some of the language for this for your general NYC travel advice.  Also, there are some NYC girls on the Travel board who don't post here.  It might be nice to ask them to start populating this board and answer some of your posts.  :-)
