On Saturday, DH and I attended our friends' wedding - the first since our own wedding. It was so nice to be a guest and not worry about everything! Some things went really wrong though, so my heart went out to my friend, but she seemed to take it in stride. I thought you girls could sympathize, so I'll share. ![]()
First, the town where the wedding ceremony was ended up in the state football playoffs and had a game that day, starting an hour before the ceremony, about a block from the church. Initially, they were worried about parking, but it wasn't a problem since football fans didn't park in the log. What they didn't realize was that they shot fireworks after the home team scored. It sounded like bombs attacking the church from the sky. It was really loud. I heard it first when everyone was arriving and we weren't even seated yet. Knowing that it was a full Catholic service (and therefore very long), I knew it'd happen again - and it did - twice! Once during the processional and then again during the "our Father" part. The second time was the grand finale of fireworks because the home team won and it lasted like a full minute!
Then they had rented a trolley for their wedding party since there were so many people. It was about a 40 minute drive from church to reception. In the middle of the ride, the trolley blew a tire! Since they had double tires (like a semi, I guess), they thought it would be okay, but they took a ramp too fast and the whole thing blew - so hard, it blew the seats in the bus right above that tire! Luckily nobody was hurt, but they had to stop and get another trolley. The bride and groom got a ride from their parents who were following the trolley, but the rest of the wedding party (including my DH) were stuck on the side of the Interstate for an hour! The reception started about an hour and a half late, but it was fine after they all got there.
Since the party was stranded for an extra hour (with beer from the trolley ride), the BM got way more drunk than he should have been and his toast was ... interesting.
He even said he was more inebriated than he wanted to be in the toast!
I felt so bad for them, but I know it'll be a day they never forget!
