I'm swimming in crap!!!

Literally.

Our septic tank backed up into the house this weekend (while we were GONE!)  The people to pump it are coming in the morning but we spent the past few hours using the wet vac to get as much of it out of our shower and bathroom floor as possible.  I feel sick.  Ugh.

I guess on a lighter note, we did start christmas decorating when we couldn't handle the smell/grossness anymore...

  • That's horrible!!! I hope they come early in the morning so you don't have to deal with the smell all day.  We don't have a septic. We never have.  I just found out not that long ago what a septic tank is and not everyone is hooked up to the sewer.  How dumb am I?

Yay for decorating in your new house!

  • We have a septic here and that is one of my biggest fears. We got it pumped before we closed to make sure there were no issues with it. At the place we were renting I got a call from Brian while I was at the grocery store-pregnant at the time. That I should do my business while I was out since our septic was backing up into the house. I was freaking out. 1. I hate pooping in public and 2. hello I am pg and pee every 3 min. We called out landlord and she paid for someone to come out that day (it was a Sat) to have it taken care of. We told her it was either that or she needed to get us a hotel room because there was no way I could stay there with it like that. It was awful and the smell was even worse than seeing poop in your tub.
  • Oh that's awful, we had that happen in the house I grew up in, luckly it only backed up into our basement.  I hope they get it all cleaned up today for you.
  • I have always lived in houses with sewers too.  I couln't imagine having to do that, I think I'd be dry heaving the entire time.

The part that bothers me the most was that at closing we were told that it had "just been pumped" recently.  The guys here now working on it are saying it has never been pumped.  Ugh.  Way to go septic inspection guys...now I wonder what the sellers paid them for.

  • was that documented at all and can you hold the sellers to that statement?

  • Thats awful! I'm with Mel I would be dry heaving the whole time. I'm sorry you have to deal with that.

I'm going to have to get in my settlement docs at the office to see.  It's not in what I brought home (but I didn't bring it all home because it's safer there).  All I know is they are still here working on it (I think they are having to run something through the pipes to make sure they are clear).

  • I would definately look into your paperwork to see if it said it had just been pumped. I know here in Maine there is a disclosure page that has things like the age/maitainece etc of the bigger things like the hot water heater/furnace/septic. During inspection our realtor checked out our septic for us (he also does work with things like that, so we did not have to pay for a seperate inspection) and it was full. There were 9 people living in this 3br ranch (with an extra room in the basement) Because of the price we got she would not do anything if it came up on inspection, so we paid to have it pumped before our inspection time line ran out just in case. Our realtor came back that day for us and checked it out again. I would be pissed to find out they lied about something like that, and they would be paying for that pumping as well as cleaners to come in and scrub your bathrooms and anywhere else it got to!
  • Oh Mandy....I am sorry.  I cant imagine anything worse.  I hope it gets cleaned up fast and good.
  • Gross!!

  • Ok, so in my closing docs we have a statement that the sewer had been pumped by the previous owners (so the owners prior to the owners we bought it from).  They based the statement on what they were told (they didn't own the house that long so they didn't "need" to pump it if it had been pumped right before they purchased it).  Sigh.

Oh well, it was only $350 to have it pumped and the lines cleared so that's good.  AND I have a guard dog - my male GSD went CRAZY when those guys got within 5 feet of me.
