Will you be going shopping on Friday?

I've never been shopping on Black Friday, but this year, I have to be at work at Kohls by 3:45 a.m. and they open at 4 a.m.  And I get off at 12:30 p.m.  Since I've never even been out shopping that morning, I have no idea what to expect.  But people who've worked at Kohls for a while keep talking about huge lines and people waiting outside all night to get a spot in line.

I have to admit--I just don't get it.  I can see doing something like that for a store like Best Buy, where they have all those big appliances and t.v.'s for really cheap, but Kohls??  I guess they have small kitchen appliances and stuff like that.  But still.  4 a.m. is just sooooo early!

Will you be getting up early to go shopping? And if so, where are you going?

Re: Will you be going shopping on Friday?

  • NO NO NO lol I went twice in the past 4 years and I have found the deals are not really all that special. Unless of course  you're in the market for appliances, electronics and popular toys and you're up for waiting in line for hours before the store opens to rush in and grab that special item you want... I feel like the rest of the deals are really not that great...there are a few here and there but not enough for me to deal with the crowds and rude people lol
  • Hell to the No.

I did that once and it was way too much for me to handle (I have problems with crowds), then I worked black friday at the mall and it was insane.

MIL and SIL go every year and they actually start at Kohls cause its the first to open generally and even at 4 the store is full of people. Last year SIL got a gps at kohls for really cheap and it wasn't a terrible one - its wasn't top of the line, but it was still really good. They tend to carry stuff like that around Christmas (at least here they do) and like you said the home stuff can be cheap - especially things like the vacuums (think expensive dyson for cheap).

Ahhh yes, they are pushing the vacuums this year I believe.  And I have seen GPS's and stuff like that.  They also have a lot of ipod accessories I think.

I think I heard somewhere that Toys R Us is opening at midnight.

  • No. And my heart goes out to you.
  • I would go with my mom and brother to some clothing stores at the outlet mall like Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren simply because they had/have pretty good deals usually. TH still has their regular 40% off your purchase sale, but Ralph Lauren's sale isn't as good as it used to be so I haven't been there in a while.  I doubt I'll be going this year though since money is tight.

This.  Kohl's is INSANE on Black Friday.  Make sure you have plenty of caffeine!

I have decided I'd much rather go to work than go shopping.  So, that's my plan :)

  • LOL I'm one of those Crazy people!!! My mom and sisters and I have been going for like 6 years every Black friday and last year we started shopping at Midnight at the outlet malls and then we hit up the other stores by 3 or 4 which ever opens first. It's such a great tradition and it is crazy but it's so much fun to go shopping with them like this once a year we all love the bonding time since we all have different schedules this is the one day of the year we get to do this!
  • I havne't yet and I dont plan to start.

I find it hysterical but my FIL is going to go out on Friday.  He plans to get to Walmart super early to get my step daughter a GPS for Christmas.  I was cracking up.  He is NOT a shopper, but he is all excited about the deal. My MIL and I said have fun because we won't be going out that day.

  • I used to work retail and I had to work on black Friday and I hated it.  I try not to go.  But my favorite comic book store has everything in the store (except collectables) by-one-get-one so I may have to go there-I'm so geeky.
  • i will be working.  i'm actually really excited about it this year!  i was pregnant and SO blah last year, i didn't enjoy it at all, but being management and all this year, i am really excited.  and it's always so crazy busy that the day goes by really quickly.

oh and PS...victoria's secret calls it PINK friday.  :)
