Creepy or normal?

Every year for X-mas, my MIL buys underwear for my DH. Usually they are holiday themed boxers but I have always felt uncomfortable about this. My mom sometimes puts cute holidays ones in my stocking and I am fine with it, but for some reason it totally creeps me out that MIl buys underwear for DH. This could have to do with how clingy she is with him. I swear she is going to pop out a boob at any minute and ask him to breast feed. What do you think, is underwear from MIL creepy?

Re: Creepy or normal?

  • Creepy - but I'll totally outcreep you right now so you don't feel so bad.

My MIL bought me lingerie. When I was 17.

  • MIL buys DH underwear too. Underwear, white t-shirts, socks, deodorant and match box cars in his stocking. I really have no issue with the clothing because he needs it and it's one less thing for us to buy but the toys bug the hell out of me (and DH too). His parents cannot get over the fact that their kids aren't little any more and still give DH & SIL small gifts appropriate for someone 6-8 years old. It's annoying and we all roll our eyes but it happens every.single.year.

Um, you win. I was creeped out when MIL saw me open lingerie at my shower, but your story is so much worse.

I've never been so mortified in my whole life. She said she thought Alex "would like it."

  • I'm with KB. MIL gets DH white tees, boxers, and socks, and dollar store medical products like Tumbs, asprin etc. I don't mind -- one less thing for me to buy him. Maybe it would be sketchier if they were like "sexy" underwear.

GMIL and one of DH's aunts got me lingerie at my shower. :(

  • I think its creepy too and I'm so glad my MIL does not do this. The basic white tshirts/boxers wouldnt bother me as much but I would think its wierd if she knew what kind/brand of underwear he liked as he hasnt lived at home in 10 years. And Choo that is terrible... my face would have been bright red.
  • B only wears Tommy Hilfiger/ Nautica boxers and has since he was a teenager (he's a brand whoore) so if and when his mom buys him boxers, I'm cool with it.  He actually only asked for boxers, socks and new work shoes for x-mas, so I'm sure his mom will get him some. It actually bothers me more when we spend the weekend at their house and she offers to do our laundry.
I'm friends with everybody in this office. We're all best friends - I love everybody here. But sometimes your best friends start coming into work late, and start having dentist appointments that aren't dentist appointments. And that's when it is nice to let them know that you can beat them up.
  • My MIL came bra shopping with me before our honeymoon and came into the fitting room with me and commented on the lift and separation abilities of each bra. She was also there when the saleswoman said that she found something that would be good for our honeymoon, would be sexy, etc.

    I don't think she'd ever get C underwear though. He'd be annoyed.

  • I would find it less weird if she bought him the kind that he wears, but she buys him whatever she thinks he would like/she likes. He hasn't worn the type of underwear she buys him in at least the 5 years we have dated. It's always boxer briefs (my fav!) and not cotton boxers with snowmen on them

This is pretty strange. My mom and I are super close and even she doesn't buy me underwear. It's especially weird to do it for your son whose a man, I think. It would be one thing if it was a practical gift like you said, but the fact that she doesn't even buy the kind he needs/wears is...well, just disturbing.

Choo your MIL sounds like a real peach.

I don't see anything wrong with MIL buying M boxers.

  • I think holiday-themed boxers are totally cute and appropriate.

I would have no issue with a MIL buying me lingerie now (except that I would probably not like her taste), but when you're 17 that's a bit strange.  17 year olds don't need spicing up (or really, any encouragement for that matter).  I don't think being European has anything to do with it.

  • I'm w/KB & Mames...MIL buys DH boxers, socks, and white t-shirts still.  I have no issues with it - like they said it's less stuff we have to buy.  This has happened every year since we started dating, as it was happening pretty much every year of his life, so it doesn't bug me at all!  Though I probably would be weirded out if they were something he didn't like but she did.  That is a bit creepy!
