We had to put our kitty down last night :(

She was only 6 and a half.

At midnight I heard her in the livingroom, she was being noisier than normal.  I come out and turn on the light and she is on the couch, panting with her mouth open like a dog.  She was also flopping around weird.  I woke up DH and it took us a few seconds to realize she lost use of her back legs.  She kept trying to pull herself up and then she would just flop back down.

We took her to the emergency vet and it turns out she had a blood clot blocking circulation to her legs.  There was no pulse in either of them.  The vet said it would cost 2-3k to treat but there was a 50% chance it would happen again within 3 months and she was not sure kitty would be able to use her back legs again.  We chose to end her suffering.  I have never had a pet before her and I never realized how much making that decision weighs on your heart.  DH couldn't watch so I did because I didn't want the last faces she saw be strangers.

I just hate this for DH.  Week before last he lost his grandma, last week we get bad news on his cancer, and then last night he had to put his cat to sleep. This is not fair to him at all.
