Black Friday

I tried doing this as a poll but it wouldn't work for some reason.

So, are you going shopping on Black Friday?  Online or in stores?  Early or later in the day?  Any certain deals you are going after?

Re: Black Friday

  • Unless I find a really good deal on something, I think I'm going shopping later in the day.  I have most of my Christmas shopping done so there isn't too much I need to shop for.  I'm keeping my eye open for online deals but haven't seen anything that I want yet.

  • I usually go shopping that day around 9/10:00. I'm not going this year because I plan on cleaning the house and putting up Christmas decorations because we're having friends over that night.

  • Depends on the ads.  We really want/need some new TVs, so if there is a killer deal I will make it out for that.

  • Nope, no shopping for us.  I've never gotten into the Black Friday shopping hype.  I really don't need a dvd player bad enough to fight with a grandma over it!  I will be sleeping in, relaxing, and decorating the apartment!
  • No way!  I've never been a Black Friday shopper, but this year the Iron Bowl (Alabama vs. Auburn - bigger than the Super Bowl in AL) is on Black Friday.  I'm not leaving my TV the entire day!  WAR EAGLE!!!!

A-to-the-C:  Are you going to the game?

  • I'm not sure.  We'll be in Boise which has a bigger mall and more stores, but I'm not sure how brave we'll be feeling/if there is anything worthy of standing in lines freezing to death.  We've already got an idea of what we're buying for people, but we'll see.  I can't believe Thanksgiving is this week!!! • I usually go every year and am planning on going this year with my mom. But it all depends on the ads. I haven't really bought any gifts yet or really even thought about what to get people. So, I'll buy the paper on Thurs morning and decide. But I like to go! Its a rush and I love getting the good deals :o)
  • I'll be on the other side - I have to work at a major retailer on Friday. Not excited. At all.

  • Amelia--not going to the game this year, and I am so irritated about it being on Friday, it messes up my whole tradition. What do you think about the Friday game? And you are so right--it is bigger than the super bowl in Alabama.

I go shopping with my mom every year--we go all day long. early am until dark. My dad, brothers, and now H stay at home and hang the outside lights so when my mom and I pull up, the house is all lit up, and they carry in all the packages.

This year I'm not sure what I will do since the Iron Bowl is right smack in the middle of the day. I can NOT miss it--I will likely be in a bar/restaurant watching the game, taking a break from shopping.

    ROLL TIDE ROLL!

I have never shopped black friday, but in high school and college I worked it for 7 years straight!  Toys R Us, Old Navy, and TGI Fridays.  Craziness!

Working it all those years is part of why I'm not sure if I want to shop.

  • We go out in later in the afternoon, mostly just to people-watch.

I'll check out the Cyber Monday deals, too.  I don't think I'll be worrying about the online BF stuff.

I think it completely SUCKS that it's on Friday.  I heard the contract is for the next 5 years or something like that.  I want my traditional Saturday evening game back!!!  Whoever decided that Black Friday was a good idea needs to get punched.  The economy in AL is already bad enough, now they're just discouraging people from shopping even more!

Plus, I spend every Thanksgiving in Nashville with my family, now I won't be able to go to the game for awhile, PLUS I won't get to watch the game with my friends.  Double suck.  My brother is going, but he's a student there.  He's had this whole week off to spend in TN so he'll just leave Thursday morning, no big deal to him.  Me on the other hand, I have to choose between seeing family and football.

  • I'm not planning on going out on Friday - the traffic can and will be horrendous in my town - but I may go out a little early on Saturday. I really want a new coat for winter and some boots. I'm not looking for any big items since we're still scaling back.
  • I go out every year. This year I'm going with my mom. We'll be hitting up Best Buy very early - I'm going to try to get a laptop they have there.

Mom is looking for an IPod Touch - so we're not sure if we'll drop by Target or Walmart later for those.

After the big ticket items we'll head to a mall somewhere near to browse around there. I love going out Black Friday shopping. :)

  • I am not going to do any shopping that day, except maybe online.  I had fun going out early the last couple of years, but my holiday shopping is pretty much done.

  • I always went with my mom and last year Mike joined us.  It will be the three of us again.  We really like the comeraderie we've experienced (and the deals), but I know that isn't always the case in most locations.  Mike said he isn't leaving our apt before 4 am, yeah we like to hit the stores early.  Then we break for breakfast after a couple hours, continue on for a few hours and have lunch.
